I think the pattern is SOMETHING like this for the verse:

d-x-DDuX-dux-dux

- means pause
x means chuck

So to save other people going and looking it up, D tuning is a,D,F#,B - i.e. a whole tone higher than standard tuning.

Valerie: Thanks. Good tip.

When I'm going from G to Em a lot I like to barre the C, E and A with my index finger, and play the third fret with the middle. That way you just have to put your ring finger on.

Something I discovered while practicing "All I want for Christmas is You," but applies equally well here, is to play the G chord as -231 rather than -132 as you normally would. Makes transitioning to the B, (and to the Em in Mariah's ditty) much easier for me, since the first finger is already basically where it needs to be, and I don't have to rotate my wrist around. Or am I the only one that plays chords like D and G with my fingers pointed down the neck rather than laying across?

Ingrid Michaelson's version is my favourite. =) Probably because I heard it first, but ... well, I like it the best. =)

now if I could only get her strumming pattern right... *frustrated*
