Julia: I've yet to hear anyone use that technique and make it sound good. But if it works for you go for it.

Going from D to E is easy for me because the way I play tem is a little weird. I bar the top three strings with my thumb, over the neck. A bit unorthodox, but it sounds the same and works best for me!

I tried out a few strumming patterns, from A to F#m do Up Up Down x2, then the same thing from F#m to D, and you just do Up up down once for D and then once for E, then go back to A and do it twice and twice for F#m etc..

In my opinion, the easiest way to switch from D to E is to play D by barring the G, C, and E strings with your index finger, instead of playing each string with a different finger. It is a little more difficult, but i find that it makes a much easier transition to E.
