That’s ok then, I hold the uke in what feels a comfortable way for me. I do strum in a similar fashion to him, with the all but the strumming finger tucked away. Not sure if that’s a good thing or not, it’s just what felt most natural when I started learning.

I think the height is the main thing that makes it look awkward – it’s got to make it harder to strum and fret holding it there.

He might be holding it that high to make sure the mic picks it up. I don’t see any other way that it’s being picked up.

What is it about Joe’s playing style that you think looks awkward? It looks very similar to my own playing style and now I’m worried that I might be developing bad habits! I don’t hold the uke quite so high mind.

I’m a jules fan but what a shame/sham he pre-records his ‘New Year Special’. Better to have less high profile performers and keep it liveish.

Tommy: I think you’re being quite mean about that song. I like it.

Andy: I had the same thought as you about his playing style.

I don’t mind him Jools playing with people as much as I mind his interviewing technique. I just have to switch over every time he starts talking to someone. Still, it’s the only music show on TV worth watching, so can’t slag it off to much.

I was just going to say that im rather pleased that ‘Jools’ Holland didnt decide to ‘accompany*’ Mr Browns performance on the programme.

It also occurs to me that it cant be comfortable playing like that!
