Usually I respond with Don McLean’s American Pie when asked this question, the song so long it continued on the flip side, which was among the first singles I ever bought. But the first single I ever bought was A Horse with No Name, by America, purchased at Woolworths, E 204th St., Bronx, NY, 1972. Still no idea what it’s all about.

First album I bought with my own money was Deep Purple’s Machine Head. I’d say most embarrassing was Foreigner’s Double Vision, though I was able to trade it to a friend for Cheap Trick’s Live At Budokan.

I had a lot of records and eight tracks (now who feels old?) around from the start.

But, the first record I bought with my own money was Like a Virgin. One of the more embarrassing cassette tapes I ever owned was Def Leppard. I had the hair to match, so I was pretty much screwed as far as being cool goes.
