I saw Jason Mraz on Saturday Night Live and he played it on a guitar, that was capo’d up about 6 or 8 frets so that it sounds like a uke

You’re right about I’m Yours. It translates nicely to the uke, but was obviously originally done on the guitar. I’m pretty sure I’ve never heard the uke on any Mraz tunes.

If you want it that badly, save up the money. I don’t know your age but when I was (I’m sure) much younger than you, I wanted an American Girl doll but my parents just plain couldn’t afford it. So I saved up the money, around $100 (Adjusting for inflation, that’s $179.03 in today’s money). It took me quite a while, if I recall. Around 8 months? That certainly gives you time to decide if it’s something you really want or if it’s just a passing fancy.

And your initial investment is much smaller: You can get a Makala from MusicGuyMic for under $40 American. That’s a fine first ukulele – I played it in a full electric band.

Save your pennies: you’ll have $40 in NO time and you will appreciate it so much more because you worked for it.

I don’t know… It could very easily be a miss-tuned tenor plunking in the background providing the rhythm. It surely isn’t a great example of what the uke is capable of, but exposure none the less.

Uke-Less-Liv, I don’t know what to say. Maybe you can have her listen to some good songs or watch a youtube video. Or, find a Kala at a store that also sells $2,000 Martin guitars and point out the difference in a “starter” instrument… Just a thought.
