Makala are Kala‘s introductory range of ukuleles. There aren’t many budget-price concert ukuleles around, but this is a good buy. If you can find it, it’s worth buying on that comes with setup and some good strings (like Aquila).

After learning the uke on a mahalo cheapie since august 2012, i thought about upgrading to a concert sized uke, and went for this makala mk-c model, and i am very impressed with it so far, even though i have owned it for less than 48 hours, the difference between the mahalo and the makala is extraordinary, it is much louder, clearer, brighter, and the fingerboard is a joy to play with, the frets are at the right height, no sharps anywhere.

I did experience a buzzing sound from the head, after close inspection and a bit of head scratching, i found out that the buzz was due to those creamy plastic rings which are on each tuner on the front of the head, i simply glued them carefully in place to stop them moving, job done, no more buzzing, a minor issue, but worth pointing out, and it does not detract from its value for money or playability/sound, just glue them in place and the buzzing will go.

Definitely worth spending the extra money on, even though i got it for £43 in the uk, its still cheap compared to some concert ukulele’s, but slightly more expensive than the basic dirt cheap introductory models, this is definitely a ukulele to consider.

i agree with Alexandra! The little plastic rings were obnoxious, so I glued them in place…no problem now! I am going to replace the black nylon strings with Aquila Nylgut thought…I like the sound of those strings better over the black nylon. Great uke over all!

I just bought a Makala MK-C. It is brand new and it seems that after every 3 songs I have to tune it again. Please tell me the strings settle down or should I return the uke?

This Ukulele is amazing. I own it for like 10 days and i must say that this instrument is beautiful: i came from a cheap ukulele and the difference is huge! I’ve also tried this ukulele against many other High price one’s but i have to admit that the MK-C is not far behind! And for this price.. amazing, i’m happier about it day after day

Got something to say?
