Harmony were one of the many guitar makers to jump on the ukulele bandwagon when they first became popular. Their ukes weren’t as well made as Martin or Gibson ukuleles, but they were very popular, particularly after they hooked up with Roy Smeck. They also made many ukuleles that were sold under other names. According to Jim Beloff’s book The Ukulele, Harmony were making three quarters of all the US ukuleles in the 1960s. As such, you can usually pick one up on eBay at quite a reasonable price.

I have a Harmony baritone uke and the sound is sooooo smooth. The tuners were the most annoying things ever though, and I had to drill out the holes to widen them so I could fit some Grover tuners in. Now that I did that, I have absolutely no complaints. If you manage to find a Harmony baritone make sure to snatch it up. You won’t find a sweeter sounding baritone uke anywhere else.

Any idea when Harmany Uke’s had wooden pegs and are they worth any more than any other Harmany Uke?

Got something to say?
