Kala Gloss Koa KA-KCG-CT Ukulele

This uke is intended as a higher end version of Kala‘s koa range. It’s a slight misnomer since the top of the uke is cedar rather than koa – on the upside, it is solid wood unlike the rest of the ukes in their koa range.

I purchased this uke from MGM. In fact, I explained that I wanted a bright-sounding instrument for solo (unaccompanied) playing; this is the one he recommended. It certainly fits the bill. Strung with Aquilas,it has a beautiful lace-like tone when finger-picked and is robust when strummed. Great looking, too! Not mellow though, so be forewarned. MGM is great to deal with. I didn’t realize that the uke has a solid Koa body as is stated above. Are you sure about this? It is loud, my ears are ringing!

Just received this uke last week from musicguymic, it is beautiful, sounds great and I am sure I will enjoy playing it for many years. Mine is tuned to low G and since I am a convert from the banjo I love to fingerpick it. It has exceeded all of my expectations. I do not think the one listed on amazon is the same as the high gloss one from MGM.

Purchased a KALA KA KCG Concert Uke from Duke of Uke in London. I am a very experienced guitar player who has been dropping in on Uke sessions for a bit of fun As with all musical instruments, quality costs a little bit more..this was more than I intended to spend, but what a great ukulele!. Thank goodness its made in China..cant imagine the price if it was made elsewhere. http://www.youtube.com/user/telecastersteve#p/a/u/0/Zt7nEH-5AkM

I wasn’t planning on getting this model, but after playing it and hearing it, I bought this instead of the other 5 ukes I tried. The tone is sweet, sustain is amazing and it’s surprisingly loud! It blew the other ukes in the same (or close to the same) price range. It plays well right out of the box and it’s quite a handsome instrument. BTW, this uke has a solid top but the sides and back are laminate. My salesperson also told me that this model is being discontinued, so if you’re interested in it, I’d try and find one now while there are still a few available. 5 out of 5 stars from someone who originally really wanted another model…
