Ever considered reviewing cases? I bought a Fremont case with my uke as it’s all they had… but it’s the large rectangular type and not as padded as I’d like. I’ve been considering one from Eastman and one from Gator… but so difficult to choose as I’d have to mail order them!
You rock! I am so happy that I’ve found this site. I found you through my buds at Keston Cobbler’s Club (though I’m on the other side of the big pond). I’ve had ukes on my brain like crazy and finally bought my first one today as an early birthday present. Thank you for providing us with so many great resources…and of course, I love your twisted sense of humor! Which always makes for some fun reading!
Cheers, Rachel
I recently purchased a Tweed Hard Case (They also come in Black and Faux Alligator) and all I can say is that they are outstanding. The fit for my Tenor Ukulele (Lanikai SMT) is almost a custom fit with no slop where the instrument can move in the cut out as occurs with many of the Foam Hard Cases. For the mones, it is the only way to go in my not so humble opinion… OOPS.. this is a Kala CASE.
@ Laouik – I just got a Gator case last month…and it seems to be okay. A bit tight to the concert size, every time I take it out it messes with the tuning knobs. But for the price, (roughly thirteen pounds) not a bad thing. π Would like to know what everyone else likes case wise. x
we bought a Kala thinline travel ukulele last year and at the store they had a plastic molded case with it that we did purchase at the time – we wish we had. That’s what I am looking for. Where can i find something like that?
I got a CNB (Cases and Bags) hard-case for my concert uke. It was a touch too big, but that allowed me to make and fit more padding. What was more disappointing was that of the 3 catches, 2 have snapped in less than 2 years. Replacements are cheap enough but a pig to replace.
I need some help. I am building [my first] solid, fretless bass ukulele and I am having HUGE problems sourcing the bridge. I didn’t think the electronics would be such a problem, but ideally, in an ideal world, I would find the bridge and electronics that the Kala solid Ubass has. I didn’t believe I would have such trouble with parts. My project was abandoned by the guy I have bought it off; it is one solid piece of Swamp Ash, through to the top of the head. I may need to rout out a channel in the body, to put in [the equivalent of] a “truss rod” but I’ll decide that when I get the body this week !!! Any help from anyone would be very gratefully received by me.
I bought a CNB Tenor Ukulele Hardcase online for my kohala tenor ukulele and IT DOESN”T FIT. It is at least 2cm/1inch to small. You would think there would be standard sizes so make sure you check the measurements before you buy.
I, too, would like for you to talk about cases, gig bags, etc. I have hard cases for travelling, and gig bags to take to groups and classes.
Strings would be an excellent discussion. Putting Aquila or T.addario strings on a mediocre uke can make a world of different.
I have a beginner uke – Kohala AK-C… Keeping the strings in tune with the friction tuners has been challenging. I’m about to change the strings to Aquila Nylgut. Is it worth changing to geared machine heads for the tuners? I’ve seen Stagg, Ping, and Grover brands for Ukuleles, but have not seen many reviews on them or their benefits.
I got a new ABS Crossrock CRA800CUCH ukulele case as a birthday gift from my girlfriend last week.It is perfect!!I love it so much and it fit in my ukulele
I have a tenor Luna Tattoo uke and foam case that zips up. It fits the shape of the body and the full length of the uke but my body is a little to tall for the case. I can close it but it is really tight and the zipper is a half inch or so below the top of the uke when I look at the closed case. Is that going to hurt the bridge or body? Or is it alright for a uke case to be that snug?
Have an old Kumalae still protected by original case.Purchased by my Grandfather Date not established. He was.Age 39 in 1915.TO My Dad in 1934 thence to me around 1960 . Missing one tuning peg.One catguard string survives. Instrument has never been repaired and in very good condition.Shamed to admit neither Dad or Me ever played it.Family not interested. The leather straps on . case have perished Should I sell as is or rejuvenate? You are running a very helpful site and I hope it is also heloful for business. Good On You. D.Williams 0429644394.
I recently purchased a Fender Tenor Montecito Ukulele, love it, however I have been looking at hard cases for it and they all seem too small. My ukulele is 27.5 inches long, the body is 9×12″. Any recommendations? Would really appreciate any feedback. Thanks!

Kanilea supposedly makes or sources a hard shell case for their super tenor uke. Anyone seen them anywhere? I’ve asked kanilea but they don’t respond.
I travel a lot and would really like to take the uke, but the soft side case just doesn’t cut it. Some Baritone cases fit but are way too long.
