The Ukulizer is a ukulele chord site with some nifty gubbins allowing to switch from D to C tuning or transpose at the click of a button.

The end of Eilidh’s Daily Ukulele Ceilidh got plenty of press coverage. Most of it pedestrian and some of it moronic. By far this best was the interview in the Daily Record.

I got an email from mrfifty6 saying, “gus and fin are NOT the most punk ukulele players on youtube, i am.” Check out his YouTube page if you think you can handle the punk. Watch your backs GUGUG.

Shattered Satellite has an mp3 of Florence and the Machine covering Beirut’s Postcards from Italy.

Uke Thingy pointed me towards the definition of uke attitude. One guy who definitely has the uke attitude is the writer of Ukulele Lesson. The site is full of ukulele poetry. My favourite is, “The ukulele sound won’t interrupt the talking of business or the whisper of lovers.”

There’s a ukulele on The Beach Boys’ Help Me, Rhonda says Lost and Sound. My first reaction was, “Like chuff there is.” But, I was listening to the single version. Take a listen to the backing track for the album version and there’s definite uke action.

In: Sharon Jones, Mrs Kucinich and the ukulele. Heartily agreed on all counts. (via Ukulelia)

You appear to be suprised that Julia won the contest… why, exactly?

  2. Woodshed January 5th, 2008 11:51 am

Because I don’t think it’s anywhere near the best (I don’t think it’s one of her best). I prefer all the rest of the top five.

    welp… about 600 people disgree.

  4. Rayan January 6th, 2008 4:53 am

Hey thanks for linking to our new years eve video.

  5. Heather January 6th, 2008 7:14 am

I agree w/ Woodshed. It was delightful, but in my view not the best one by a long shot.

Rayan: Thanks for putting on such a fun show.

walton: Which 600? Her subscribers? I’m one of those so that’s 599 tops.

I don’t have anything against Julia. I think she rocks. I featured her very first ukulele video at the time. I just wasn’t as blown away by this one as other entries.

Heather: Good to hear I’m not alone.

You’ll note that the person responsible for the moronic coverage of Eilidh has no comment section nor email addy available.

I really wanted to say something to her, y’know?

Of course, I couldn’t possibly condone people harassing her.

  9. Zathras January 7th, 2008 6:38 am

I prefer Julias other stuff also, but I think she looks like the one that could benefit the most from a new uke. Maybe people were looking at it from that point of view…

I certainly don’t think that this video was her best, but I definitely think it deserved to win. Glad to hear you like her, Woodshed.

Having seen the winner of the Bushman Harmonic Contest, I’m suddenly very glad Julia won the uke side and we didn’t have to watch naked, hairy man-boobs. “Eww, Ugly Naked Guy is playing the mouth organ.”

Chris: I wouldn’t be surprised. There is some justification in it. If that guy in 4th place wants a Bushman, I’d gladly swap one for that sweet KoAloha tenor he’s playing.

Marlon: It’s all a matter of opinion.

    Re: Ukulele on Beach Boys
My understanding is that Lyle Ritz played on the bass on various tracks. It would be nice to think he also played the uke on them too

thank you for telling people to vote for me – you are a doll!

i’ve reached #3 in comedy and #12 in singer-songwriter. thanks for all the support, my ukulele friends!

It’s a pleasure, Jen. I’ve got a reminder lined up for tomorrow as well. That site has to be the most confusing site I’ve ever seen.

I tried to look up John Mayer tabs for Heart of Life but it keeps sending me back here…

  16. Woodshed September 4th, 2009 8:59 pm

Brian: That’s strange. I think I’ve fixed it. Try it now.

  17. Brian September 4th, 2009 9:13 pm

    Thank you very much! :)
