About
I have two big aims with the site:
- To make sure everyone who starts playing the ukulele keeps playing the ukulele – By making sure they have plenty to practice, the right techniques, inspiration and are hooked in to the culture.
- To make sure everyone who wants to play a musical instrument does so. – because making something is always more fun, interesting and important that consuming something someone else has made. I think a lot of people are put off music because they think they don’t have any ability. Which is why I think the uke is a great place to start. No one is intimidated by a ukulele. Everyone thinks they’ll be able to get a tune out of it. And they’re right. (I wrote more about this in my Uke Hunt is Two post).

Tuesday and Thursday: ukulele tab and chords.
As well as writing this blog, I also write ukulele ebooks which you can buy at How to Play Ukulele. I started writing these to share the more in-depth ukulele know-how that’s too extensive for a quick blog post.

Frequently Asked Questions
Where are the chords/tab?
Where it says “[name of song] (Chords/Tab)” in big red letters.
What software do you use to make your tabs?
I use Guitar Pro 5. You can read my opinions on it here: Guitar Pro Review.
Rarely Asked Questions
What’s that ‘Woodshed’ name about?
It’s a nickname I’ve been using since the dawn of the internet. Woodshedding is the practice of a jazz musician secluding himself in a small, Unabomber-style shack until he’s created his ’sound’.
Did you know ‘Uke Hunt’ sounds rude if you say it out loud?
No, and anyone who thinks that has a filthy mind. I’m far too innocent to have any idea about that sort of thing.
What’s your proudest blogging moment?
The thirteen year old me was well chuffed to be called ‘ace’ by the NME. I also got mentioned in the New York Times – the thirteen year old me didn’t care much about that.
