Match of the Day Theme (Tab)

Match of the Day Theme (Tab)

MP3

Because of my anti-football prejudice, I’d never considered tabbing this out before. With the final of Euro 2008 today (that’s soccerball to you North Americans), I thought it would be fitting and, blow me down, it could have been written for the ukulele. It also makes for a great football tune medley when it’s followed by Stars and Stripes Forever (AKA ‘Ere We Go).

Most of it is fairly simple strumming. The trickiest bits are the places where you switch from strumming to fingerpicking and the jump up to the third fret. But it’s well worth practicing (if you’re British at least).

Colin Murray, himself a keen ukulele player presents match of the day 2 each Sunday night on BBC 2. Throughout this season he has invited people to send in their versions of the MOTD theme and he closes the show with them. For example this season he has had a drum and bass version, a barbershop quartet version etc. I dont know if you fancy it but you would do this far more justice than me, as your talent outstrips mine by a country mile, and the TAB is your work not mine. just send a video here, football@bbc.co.uk ,and I’m sure with Colins uke interest you would stand a good chance of getting on.

Paul: Thanks very much for the tip off. I might have a go. I’ll have to relearn it and do a better version first.
