Noah and the Whale – Second Lover (Tab)

Noah and the Whale – Second Lover (Tab)

Is it safe to talk about Noah and the Whale again? The whole 5 Years Time thing did get a bit annoying. This one is definitely no three chord strumalong. There’s some very tricky picking involved.

When I pick it I use the one-finger-per-string (thumb on G string, first finger on C string etc.).

If you don’t fancy tackling that, you can make it easier by missing out the G string so you get this:

The chords in the last bit are A – Bm – C#m – Bm over and over.

what is the point of linking to a video hating on certain (relatively speaking) “popular” ukulele songs.. i thought this blog was to promote the ukulele not support hating of it. there is a reason those simple songs were popular and they have brought lots of attention and new players to the uke like myself.

its unfortunate N&TW album wasnt promoted more and now their recording/releasing a second one supposedly. we’ll see where they go, they had lots of potential, and a good live show too!

alex: I don’t know how much promotion they got over there, but over here they never seemed to be off. And it did get annoying. But I do still like the band.

Promoting the ukulele isn’t the main goal of this blog. It’s aimed at people who are already playing the ukulele. As far as promotion goes, I like to promote good music. And there’s plenty of ukulele music that annoys me – although it’s different list to Jimmy’s.

This is a lovely song, as are many of the items off that album – as only a part time ukulelelelelelelelier I only part hate the 5 Years Time song, of course.
But it’s catchy, you’ve got to admit that much.

    Frank: Glad you like it.

I am now learning this song after endless hours of searching the internet for covers and tabs and when I found this video I was extremely pleased and picked up my uke straight away. However the main trouble I am having with it is that it is in such fast timing. do you have any tips on how to play it at the correct speed without getting all my fingers in a muddle?

  17. Woodshed June 4th, 2011 11:10 am

harriet: Start off really slowly. And speed it up very gradually. The more you get your fingers used to making the shapes, the better they’ll be able to handle it at full speed. Hope that helps.

Just been to the show in Manchester on 30th March and thought thier performance was fantastic with the drumming outstanding. The audience ranged from 17 to 70 years of age and everyone seemed to enjoy the whole evening.
A very enjoyable evening and I had travelled from the Isle of Man to see this special group.
Well done and continuing good luck for the future.
