Zee Avi / Koko Kaina – Just You and Me (Chords)

Zee Avi – Just You and Me (Chords)

I love the things that can happen on the internet. Step One: Upload some songs to YouTube as KokoKaina. Step Two: Get the drummer off of The Raconteurs to watch them. Step Three: Get signed, fly to LA and change your name to Zee Avi. And she hasn’t let it go to her head. She did the sensible thing and spent the money on a decent ukulele and tuned it for the album version.

She has a lovely, jazzy voice and kudos to her for rhyming heart with Kierkegaard. I guess she couldn’t think of one for Gyllembourg-Ehrensvärd.

Suggested Strumming

For each chord in the verse, try this:

D – D U – U D –

You can use the same strum for the chorus but for the Em – Ebm transition do D – D U – on the Em and U D – on the Ebm.

And in the ba-da… bits, just two down strums each for C and D7 and one for G7.

Twiddly Bit

Here’s how she plays the fingerpicking intro.

    What a great story!

“Kierkegaard” and “heart” is a rhyme to take pride in.

I’d have to say the rhyme I’m proudest of is “simian” and “Argentinian” from my tune, Naughty Monkey off of the Snake Suspenderz latest CD.

I do so hope that the programmer(s) responsible for the comment section on WordPress will finally get around to fixing the bit where they add the escape slash to single quotes (like at the end of my first name).

It’s really not rocket science and fixing it would move them from the ‘geek programmers’ group into the ‘real world programmers’ group.

Some places, instead of fixing the situation, simply disallow the apostrophe in user names. Every time I run across this problem — and it’s all too common — I wonder about the poor Irish folk with names like O’Malley and such.

Sorry for the off-topic rant. But I do feel better.

Hobbit: I have to take some of the blame myself. I’m sure I could fix it if I was brave enough. But it’s not a big enough problem for me to risk causing a bigger problem by trying to fix it.

I am very new to playing the ukulele (just got it today), and I can’t figure out what the chord pattern means. What chord is du? And what is ud? I love this song, it’s actually one of the reasons that I got my uke. Can someone let me know what the chords are?

  10. Woodshed August 20th, 2009 10:25 am

Abby: Those are the strumming pattern (u = up, d = down). To get the chords, click where it says, “Zee Avi – Just You and Me (Chords)” in big red letters.

Obviously I’m new to the whole business of finding music online too.

Thanks so much! I love the chords that you have here, and couldn’t help but play through it once even though I haven’t had breakfast.
    Thanks!

Hey there, I’m still a beginner and I can’t seem to figure out what the link to the ‘fingerpicking intro’ is about, the diagram which looks similar to the bar for piano scores. Can somebody please help me understand how it works? Thanks a lot!

  14. Woodshed December 6th, 2009 3:19 pm

Debs: It’s ukulele tab. You can learn how to read it here.
