Jason Mraz – I’m Yours (Tab and Chords)

Jason Mraz – I’m Yours (Chords)

Here it is. Due to popular demand (i.e. to stop people requesting it). And also due to the fact that the other versions on line keep it in the original key of B. It makes more sense, for beginners in particular, to move all the chords up a fret so it’s in the more uke-friendly key of C. So if you want to play along with the original, tune down half a step.

I’ve based the chords and tabs on the version in the video (which seems to have survived the cull). It’s very similar to the album version but there are some differences in the intro (and the lyrics but it’s not like they were the world’s ‘bestest’ to begin with).

Suggested Strumming

The strumming in this version (and Aldrine’s version) goes like this:

(d) (u) d – (d) (u) d –

With the strums in brackets being muted strums.

But that’s a little sparse if you are playing the uke by itself. So you could go with.

d u d u d u d u

Emphasizing the second and fourth beats.

Twiddly Bits

Here’s the intro as it’s played

i'm yours ukulele tab

But if you’re doing a solo version it’s easy to fill in the chords in between these parts.

I’m Yours

woodshed ur such a fag y wud u do this u suck sellout

Good tab. Just wondering, what’s the ease of putting it up a semitone?

  2. Woodshed June 7th, 2009 6:44 pm

Jimmy: Ha ha. Guilty! It officially got quicker to tab it out than reply to all the requests.

The semitone shift makes it possible to use open chords (useful because most people wanting to learn this are newbies). It also makes the B in the guitar lick accessible.

Hi Woodshed, I’m afraid to ask but do you accept requests?
I’ve looked around but couldn’t find a sure answer :/

But would you consider Meiko’s “under my bed?”
or really all of her songs, just kidding, but i’d think you’d like her.
She sort of in the bright eyes to priscilla ahn region

    NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

  5. Woodshed June 8th, 2009 10:35 am

Becca: Sorry, I only do requests for ukulele songs now.

Sesso: Don’t worry, I’ve already had my divine retribution for this post. I ended up in hospital last night. Coincidence? I think not.

  6. LonnaB June 8th, 2009 12:52 pm

I heard this song for the first time on Saturday. (yeah, I’m living under a rock and quite happy about it)

I was in a mega-store (haven’t been in one of those for months, either- ewww!) shopping for the Ukulele World Congress.

Al, I hope all is well.

  7. Alice June 8th, 2009 1:33 pm

    Well you done done it..

(haha, you get it? It’s kinda sad that I actually laughed when I thought of writing that)

Did you seriously end up in hospital? Hope you’re okay :)

  8. Woodshed June 8th, 2009 6:34 pm

    Lonna: How was the UWC?

Alice: Yes, I did. I’m completely fine now, thanks for asking.

  9. LonnaB June 8th, 2009 6:46 pm

Mike is a great host, I’m pretty sure everyone enjoyed themselves.

  10. Becca June 9th, 2009 12:12 am

    Okay, thanks anyways!

  11. Mary S. June 10th, 2009 1:29 am

Oh goodness, this song is horrible! Thank you for being such a gracious site manager and giving people what they wanted—you are a better man than I! As an English major, yes, these lyrics are FAR from “bestest.” :)

Personally, I’m putting in a vote for more Dent May. :) He’s a better ukulele mascot than Jason Mraz or–God forbid–Jason Castro.

  12. crystal June 10th, 2009 4:12 am

thank you so much for telling me to click on the red title.
i havent been here before. and i couldnt for the life of me fgure out why i couldnt find the cords!

  13. Matthew June 10th, 2009 2:10 pm

Very gracious of you sir. I know it’s not your favorite, and you claim to have the motive of stopping the requests, but I know you just love the peoples.

  14. Hello Jodi June 10th, 2009 2:35 pm

Since when does proper grammar have anything to do with songwriting?

I think it’s a cute little song. If people are sick of it, maybe they should stop consuming so damn much popular media. I had never heard it until about a month ago, but I listen to one AM radio station that seems to play nothing but Perry Como and the only TV program I watch is Lawrence Welk. I’m a bit of a throwback.

I’d like to add that the very same progression is used in Victoria Vox’s Bird Song. If two people did it as a medley since hers is slower I think it would sound pretty cool in counter-point.

  15. HumbleUker Jeff June 10th, 2009 3:58 pm

Al, thanks for putting I’m Yours together. There are many people in the world. So many likes and dislikes and too much politics and polarization. If anyone doesn’t like the song, move on to the next gadzillion other ones. Simple. Isn’t it?

  16. Coll June 10th, 2009 4:27 pm

I am not sure if you take requests but if you do, could you do “you and I” by ingrid michaelson and “the show” by lenka? That would be awesome! Thank you!

  17. Woodshed June 10th, 2009 8:26 pm

Mary: Thanks. I should do another Dent song soon.

crystal: You’re not the first person to miss it – hence the presence of the message.

Jodi: My hatred stems from consuming too much YouTube media. I don’t remember ever hearing it on the mainstream media (probably because I don’t consume much of it).

Matthew: Scurrilous rumour. I hate people.

    Jeff: Thanks.

Coll: Ugh! Maybe the Ingrid one.

  18. Charles June 12th, 2009 7:21 pm

I’m a little bit shocked. I promised many people I’d learn this song, but “only if Woodshed puts it on Uke Hunt”. Confident in the knowledge you’d never do that.

Although How I wrote elastic man was very good, you’ve almost made up for it.

Hope you’re okay after your trip to hospitle.

  19. Woodshed June 13th, 2009 9:11 pm

Charles: Very sorry to ruin a good excuse for you.

  20. Chris Anderson July 16th, 2009 5:12 am

I’m new to the uke, trying to get things figured out, so pardon the beginner question: do I play these chords as written on a soprano uke with C-tuning? I noticed on the pdf chord sheet, the four strings are listed as G#, D#, B, F#, which seems more than a half step difference from G, C, E, A… or maybe I’m way off the mark?

  21. Alicia Walter July 17th, 2009 6:27 am

Chris, you are quite right in your observation – you need to tune your uke a half step up on each string.

  22. Woodshed July 17th, 2009 3:39 pm

Chris and Alicia: It’s actually tuned half a step DOWN (turn the string listing the other way round and all should become clear). But you don’t need to retune at all if you’re just playing it by yourself.

  23. Ralene August 7th, 2009 12:54 am

heey, can you do She Was Mine by AJ Rafael?

  24. Deb September 25th, 2009 12:07 am

Bless you for posting this… You saved me from “Somewhere Over the Rainbow”!

  25. Woodshed September 27th, 2009 11:59 am

Deb: Glad some good came of it.

  26. sammy October 4th, 2009 11:39 pm

hi woodshed, im looking for songs for beginers do you recomend any? i can sorta play this one its a good song.

  27. Woodshed October 5th, 2009 11:48 am

sammy: Take a look at So You Just Got Your First Ukulele. And anything in the beginners section should suit.

  28. Byjimini October 15th, 2009 7:41 pm

So I’m playing my usually uke stuff at a folk night. This guy comes up to me and tells me he has the chords to I’m Yours, and that whilst he can play it on the geetar, he thinks it would sound awesome on the uke. I jot it down on my iPhone, and just tonight I remember about it, and started fretting about finding the uke tab for it.

Still having no idea what the song was, did the usual thing and Youtube’D it. Couldn’t believe it when I heard it, because I downloaded this tab from here when you first posted it.

Obviously a fan favourite around my bit up here! Shall have to learn it and play at the next folk night.

  29. Woodshed October 17th, 2009 9:24 am

Byjimini: Glad I could be of use.

  30. Elizabeth November 8th, 2009 8:26 am

Don’t be down on Mraz…you know you know you done done it because it is the bestest…lol

  31. Katie February 9th, 2010 6:08 pm

    Heya, Thanks for posting it,
However, I honestly don’t understand the “Twiddly bits”
    So hard to figure out,
    I’m new to the Uke..
Really wanna learn all my favourite songs,
this being my number 1 on meh list :)
    Help much appriciated x

  32. Woodshed February 11th, 2010 9:00 pm

Katie: There’s an explanation of how to read tab here.

  33. Cat February 16th, 2010 5:21 pm

hey i use G D Em C, will the tab intro still work with these chords? :)

  34. Woodshed February 16th, 2010 9:00 pm

Cat: No, it wouldn’t. You’d have to move everything up 8 frets.

  35. Cat February 22nd, 2010 10:08 pm

thanks woodshed… btw i love you utube vids ;)

  36. Woodshed February 25th, 2010 6:54 pm

    Cat: Thanks very much.

  37. Cor March 5th, 2010 12:54 am

I love this website. It’s awesome. The only thing is that… well? You guys are kind of ukulele snobs. Could you give a break to the rest of us Jason Mraz-loving plastic-glasses wearing indie freaks?

  39. Matt April 24th, 2010 6:08 pm

Good song, despite all the hating. Although I can see what people mean with the mindless lyrics.

In a similar kind of vein any chance of chords for ‘I Know You Know Me’ by The Tease? I can’t wade through the backing drums and whatnot to work it out. Thanks.

  40. Dom May 17th, 2010 5:33 am

Well I just started playing Ukulele recently and I can say this site was integral in my picking out a uke and learning the basics thank you for everything you do for us noobies who enjoy some pop stuff. Also I’m having trouble mute strumming properly any tips?

  41. Woodshed May 18th, 2010 10:15 pm

Dom: What does it sound like when you try to mute strum? You might need to put less pressure on the strings if you can hear a fretted note. If you can hear an open string, work out which one and try to adjust your hand to stop it.

  42. Matt May 21st, 2010 12:51 am

Just wanted to thank you for all that you do. May seem like selling out to some, but to me it’s just a very basic and simplfied way to learn songs that are popular and familiar. Whenever I need to learn a song this is the first place I check.

    Thanks!

  43. Woodshed May 21st, 2010 7:30 am

    Matt: Thanks very much!

  44. nathan_san May 26th, 2010 7:06 pm

thank you very much. That’s awsome you do.

  45. Tim K June 4th, 2010 6:58 am

Woodshed thanks for sharing,.. what’s with some haters saying you’re a sellout and such.. is it usually taboo to reveal famous artists’ song chords?

Also where can I learn to read those strumming signs?

    Cheers
    Tim

  46. Sally C July 2nd, 2010 5:22 pm

THANKYOU :D I agree, NOT the greatest song, but it’s a good one for when you are thrust into performing the ukulele in a school concert and are pretty much a complete beginner ;)

    Thanks for saving me!

  47. Woodshed July 3rd, 2010 12:19 pm

Sally C: Glad you managed to survive the performance!

  48. Lindy Danny August 6th, 2010 5:24 pm

Okay, really??? Do the words actually mean anything??? This is pure emo make crap up song… It’s even four chords!!!

This is why I never listen to pop stations.

    ~DB

P.S.: Sorry for the late rant. I just played through the song and actually listened to the lyrics and about killed myself.

  49. Woodshed August 10th, 2010 7:53 pm

Lindy: Rant away. There’s some good news on the I’m Yours front: Simon Cowell has banned it from his show.

  50. Newke August 21st, 2010 3:09 am

Woodshed, for some real songs, i.e things that aren’t youtubed so much that the ukulele actually becomes a popular instrument, try tabbing the intro riff to bruxellisation (i think that’s how it’s spelt?) by The Electric Soft Parade. Tat should give you something to work on, and it’s a good song too xD

  51. Gardenspade August 27th, 2010 4:50 pm

    Hi ‘Woodshed’,

Im new to the ukulele and thnkfully found this great site. i do understand the chords and everything except the strumming. any help ??

  52. Woodshed August 27th, 2010 10:59 pm

    Newke: Thanks for the suggestion.

Gardenspade: I wrote a bit of advice about strumming here and a more detailed ebook about strumming here.

  53. kriquit September 6th, 2010 3:01 am

Lolz! I’ve totally heard this song by the cute, little, Japanese boy on Youtube (uke3453). I TOTALLY thought HE wrote it (btw, when I thought he wrote it I loved it :). I just now found out it was a real song, I wonder why I’ve never heard it before? When I googled it, my first thought was, “OMG this Jason guy totally ripped off that little boy!” haha. Now that I’ve heard the real song and I actually like it, but I like uke345’s version better. Thanks for the chords.

  54. crazysteph12 October 7th, 2010 2:13 am

    i really like becca’s request :/

  55. Marie December 28th, 2010 7:02 pm

Thank you so much for posting this! I’m new to ukulele so I’m eternally grateful you put a beginner-type song up.

Having said that, the words of the song don’t mean much because it is a fun, carefree, flighty song made to just be an easy tune to hum and remember. Mraz is one of the better “mainstream” artists out there (if you guys took the time to listen to his other stuff). Really, don’t be music snobs. As musicians we’re supposed to encourage all productions of music, even if we don’t think the lyrics are creme de la creme or whatever. Mraz makes people happy through this song and thus people start getting into ukulele. It’s not a bad thing! Don’t you *want* others to get into music? If you can’t handle that or can’t understand it, please don’t call yourselves musicians.

  56. Lee January 7th, 2011 7:50 pm

Marie, Well said. Don’t like it don’t listen. I am truly thankful for this site. I have a Fijian background and my father and I are now able to play some “modern” music as well as the golden oldies at our get togethers because of it – THANK YOU!

  57. Christina January 23rd, 2011 1:32 am

thanks for the chords! if anyone is looking for something fun to do, check out Straight No Chaser’s I’m Yours/Somewhere Over the Rainbow. I’m pretty sure that these chords work with that with the standard tuning!

  58. Serene February 14th, 2011 8:17 pm

    I <3 this thank u dude!

  59. Jeanette May 30th, 2011 4:10 am

This is so cool. Finally found this.

  60. felix August 4th, 2011 3:44 pm

Please do a tutorial for The Tease – I Know You Know Me PLEASE
    or
if you could point me in the direction of a tutorial.

    Good job thanks

  61. Jack August 25th, 2011 11:23 pm

So it would be like this video:

    thankyou :D

  63. Jamie November 8th, 2011 10:31 pm

Hey, i am new to the uke and i love this song. I’m wondering instead of using the stumming pattern

    1 and 2 and 3 and 4 and
    d u D u d u D u

per chord, could you play it twice and twice the speed, then change chord?

    Anyones help on this?
    Cheers,
    Jamie

  64. Woodshed November 8th, 2011 11:29 pm

Jamie: You could definitely try that. It should fit.

  65. Jamie November 9th, 2011 10:01 pm

  72. Monica July 26th, 2012 8:32 pm

I love this tab! I’ve been playing this song for a while with similar chords, but it didn’t sound nearly as good. Thanks for the help!

  73. Woodshed July 28th, 2012 6:51 am
