Black Friday, Boat Paddle: Ukulele Window Shopping

We should definitely have Thanksgiving in the UK. How could we turn down a day of over eating? And a day of over spending afterwards? If you’re looking for a Black Friday deal, you can get 15% off at Guitar Center today (Friday) using the code BLACKFRIDAY. I think I’d use it to pick up an Ibanez quilted maple (they seem to using the spalted mango picture there).

Pono seem to be the ukulele of choice for musicians realising they need a better ukulele. Recent upgraders to Pono include Dent May, Amanda Palmer and Sophie Madeleine.

With guitar makers like Ibanez and Fender leaping on to the ukulele bandwagon, I thought Larivee might be returning to the fold. But they’ve gone and sold their koa wood to Kala.

Boat Paddle Resophonic.

…It’s the quilted maple when you click for a larger image and my word it’s tidy…I used to have two ibanez electric guitars and they were very nice indeed…150 bucks…Mmmm tempting…Just hope they have got their act together better than Fender seem to…

I played the Ibanez at sam ash the other day. Looks pretty, but rough frets and the sound wasn’t very good

That Ibanez isn’t available for the promotion. Neither is any Lanikai. Boo.

I got a Pono on a recent trip to Hawaii, one of the “they don’t make ’em anymore” koa ones and it is suh-weet. But I still can not sing like Sophie, nor can I rock the aviator specs like Dent.

I believe I have the same model as Amanda Palmer there(a concert mahogany), but I was underwhelmed by the sound. It’s a little quiet for my taste.

Nick: I had a friend with an Ibanez guitar back in the day. Nice piece of kit.

Vincent: Thanks for letting us know.

Adam: What? More blatant uke discrimination.

todd: I’ve been watching Bob Brozman’s National guitar demos. Want one.

pam and Dan: Difference of opinion. You guys are no help ;)
