Keston Cobblers’ Club, Erin Lang: UkeTube

I just about managed to drag myself away from watching OK Go videos long enough to put together a UkeTube. Credit this week goes to the Lummy Days ukulele podcast for alerting me to Keston Cobblers’ Club’s rather lovely You-Go.

Keston Cobblers’ Club – You-Go

Erin Lang & The Foundlings – Good Years

Helen Keller’s Ukulele – Mockingbird

Wilfried Welti – Carolan’s Dream

Little6ster – Before You’re My King

Christiaan Van Vuuren – F’ You, I’m a Ukulele

There’s a soloist I didn’t know, Wilfriend Welti. Great stuff, but is he overrated or underrated?

I followed that video to his page on youtube, which led me back here for the link with his tab book. It would be cool if, when there’s someone like that and with tabs/music available, you could link to any good source for them. Just a thought.

Well, opps. I didn’t see you had a tag for him at the bottom.

Keston Cobblers Club is great. Cool video.

Little 6ster is a treat. Great panache.

Yeah, Ok Go’s videos are impressive. It’s impossible not to watch them right now.

  4. Acilius March 6th, 2010 3:55 pm

@Alec: Wilfried Welti is definitely UNDERrated.

  5. Howlin' Hobbit March 6th, 2010 5:53 pm

Right then. Not a bad one in the bunch. Hard to pick a fave.

But I’ll go out on a limb here (because we all know how I live on the very bleeding edge and all) and state…

Best video: tie between Keston Cobblers club and Christiaan Van Vuuren.

Best song: tie between Helen Keller’s Ukulele – Mockingbird and Christiaan Van Vuuren – F’ You, I’m a Ukulele.

Hmmm… maybe I have picked a fave after all.

    Great picks this week, Woodshed!

Wow, some great picks this week, love the Keston Cobbler’s club (but i can tell I’m getting old because I just kept wanting the lad in the blue tshirt to pull his trousers up) and Christiaan’s song is fantastic. His channel is great in bittersweet way cos you can tell being ill is driving him nuts.

    Top.

  7. mictoboy March 6th, 2010 7:52 pm

oh, and thanks for dropping the ‘click to read the rest’ bit. much appreciated.

    Craig: Glad you enjoyed them.

Hobbit: Thanks for tweeting about the post.

mictoboy: You’re welcome. It’s definitely better this way.

    todd: Thanks!

thehighlandcal: Thanks for the link. That’s certainly a strange one.

  13. Woodshed March 8th, 2010 10:11 am

todd: And very catchy. I was humming it all weekend.

Flea: I wish there was more. It’s the only uke song of thiers I know of.

  14. Dliszka March 9th, 2010 1:47 pm

Keston Cobblers Club WOW thats all i have to say im addicted to this song now!! dose any one know the cords!!!???? PLEASE haha

  15. Woodshed March 9th, 2010 6:35 pm

    Dliska: I can get you started. The verse bit goes G – C – Em. Then there’s a D – C – Em – D – C – G.

I’ve only given it a quick go, so any or all of that might be wrong.

Hey Guys, just been browsing google to find out what time we’re playing on Thursday (That’s how organised I am!) and I discovered this blog!

Cheers very much for the kind words on the video and track. We’re a new little band who only formed in July last year and currently don’t have much material on the net.

We are however in the studio writing and recording for the next few months and although it’s not the only weapon in our arsenal, the Ukulele will feature heavily in a few more pieces I’m currently writing.

It’s such a diverse and bright instrument; I fell in love with it as soon as I bought it in my lunch break last autumn (Wrote You-GO 3 days later using the 1st four chords I learnt)

As for Dan’s pants mictoboy — We keep telling him the same thing! I think a pair of braces for his birthday may be in order!

    Thanks again!

    Matt

i’m thinking a post would be very happily recieved for the chords and lyrics to “You-Go” (mainly by me)

  20. Woodshed March 11th, 2010 7:14 pm

Matt: It’s a pleasure to feature you. Can’t wait to hear more. Be sure to keep me up to date.

    Joshua: It’s a definite possibility.

    Verse –
    G C Em, G C Em, D C Em, D C G. Repeats

    You’re sailing section;
    G D Em C, G D Em C.

    I see I see you are section;
    Em, D, G, C, Em, D, G, C Em, D, G, C, Em, D

(I sometimes play around with these when live, but that’s the basic chord sequence as in the recording. The instrumental at the end is the same chords as the verse)

    Lyrics

You go; I will be behind you.
And Dark Clouds never seem to find you
And a day in Peckham Rye when the skies are blue
We could take the number 9 fly to timbuck too.

    Downfall it is barely raining
And God knows I am not complaining
And I’ve got my brand new shoes with the leather
    toes,
And I’ve got nothing to loose so I’ll stand and Pose 2, 3, 4 –

    – 4 Freefall, falling must be pleasing
And I fall; only I’m not speeding.
At a hundred miles per hour, on this splendid route
I could give you all you want, for a parachute.

You’re sailing through a muddy lake
You say you’ve never swum before, take a deep breath you’re going over board.
You’re swimming through a brown milkshake
I tell you time to drink it all, but no you’re on a diet be responsible.

I see, I see you are, you’ve lost some weight that’s clear to see
I see, I see you are, you’ve lost some weight that’s clear to me
I see, I see you are, you’ve lost some weight that’s clear to see
I see, I see you are, you’ve lost some weight and –

    – Repeats –

    ————————————————-
Please allow for any mistakes; I’m currently sitting at my desk at work.

The lyrics refer to an event in my life when I was studying at Camberwell.

    Thanks, Matt
