Samantha Shelton, Bad Mitten Orchestre: Saturday UkeTube

Nothing made me laugh more this week than this video by Barbara Holm. I watch a lot of ukulele videos and, with the best will in the world, some of them are really bad. This parody is spot on (there’s always a danger declaring something to be a hilarious parody when you’re not entirely sure it’s a parody at all).

Up this week is Samantha Shelton (who has some very heavyweight friends), The Bad Mitten Orchestre, Marie Darling playing with both arms in plaster and plenty more.

Bad Mitten Orchestre – Cherie

Samantha Shelton – Tonight

Aimeeus – ’74-’75

Baron – Captain, My Captain

Sebi – Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It)

The Pyles – Pair of Brown Eyes

Marie Darling – Hero

Matthew Chilbert – Life Under The Sink

Holy crap. That Barbara Holm video was amazing.

re. Barbara Holm – did you mean to say, “… when you’re NOT entirely sure it’s a parody at all.”?
Sometimes parodies are so closely observed they’re as painful to watch as the thing they’re taking the piss out of IMHO.
Great to see Sebi back on form after the shit he’s been through recently. I’m still not convinced by the uke bass though – I find the sound a bit thin and weedy – why not just play a bass that’ll give some real bottom end?
Gosh, I am in a hard to please mood today aren’t I so I’ll end on a postive note by saying I do like the new look to the site. The banner logo would make a great T-shirt design, any plans in that direction?

Yes. Banner logo would make a great T-shirt.

    That’s me! Wow! Thanks! :)

I have a little thing for Pyles… he’s so cute! And always covers the coolest songs. I love his Boxcar cover. Bad mitten Orchestre is excellent! I love the uke/fiddle combo. I al really like Baron. Lovely song.

Alec: Agreed! Did you check out the Loch Ness Monster videos as well?

Jim: Thanks, I did mean that.

I agree that the UBass doesn’t sound as good as a real bass. But it does look like a fun instrument to play.

Aimee: Thanks for your contribution – you’re on the front page the moment as well.

Yeah, but it doesn’t have the (most likely intentional) genius of the Buddies song. Folk-indie-chick-ukesplotation.

Hello this is certainly my favorite web site. I have not yet seen these videos all yet, but the ones I have seen are all glory-wonderful and I hope Aimee makes over 100 videos. I think I logged in and out of YouTube four times just now to subscribe to stuff. I am not really even sure why I logged out in the first through fourth place.

Life Under The Sink was soooo cute! Ukes and puppets were made for each other.

Anne: Thanks very much. Glad you liked the selection.

Samantha: With the popularity of ukulele puppets, it’s a contender for uke video of the year.
