How to Destroy Angels, Naive Thieves: UkeTube

I pilfered no less than three of this week’s videos from Jeff’s sites Humble Uker and Humble Baritonics. He’s been turning up some great videos recently so you should subscribe to both blogs.

Hot on the heels of Billy Corgan is another 90s hero converting to uke: Trent Reznor. The uke crops up in the latest track from his new band, How to Destroy Angels. It’s safe to say he hasn’t been converted to Hawaiian music.

Also this week are the Naive Thieves displaying the two ends of facial-hair fastidiousness spectrum, Crooked Still and Coralie Clement.

Naive Thieves – Santa Ana

How To Destroy Angels – The Believers

Staff Rock Band – Horse To The Water

Moosenamedmorton – This Must Be the Place

Manitoba Hal – Sixteen Tons

Crooked Still – Florence

Thanks Jeff.

Michelle Blades – Pablo’s Apology

Little 6ster – Crazy Folie

Soft Charisma – Wicked Little Town

Thanks Jeff.

Coralie Clément – C’est la vie

Thanks Jeff again.

I do love me some trent reznor, but I think it’d be a lot more amusing if he decided to stop being cool and did formby it up a bit? And some michelle blades is always cool.

Some distracting things on Naive Thieves’s nice video!

Some where to noisy for me but with Crooked Still I could spend some hours!

Naive Thieves — very nice playing but could sing a bit louder. special props to the boy with the flat ‘at for excellence in mustachios.

HTDA = WTF? (to quote Abe Lincoln, “For those who like this sort of thing, this is the sort of thing they like.”)

Moosenamedmorton — a nicely askew little video and a good song well done. this *is* the sort of thing I like.

Manitoba Hal — this is about the sixth time I’ve listened to this one (so far). it’s a prime example of why it doesn’t make any difference that YouTube moved to the “like” button from the stars rating system; because 5 stars just aren’t enough.

Crooked Still — love the instrumentation and arrangement on this.

Coralie Clément — another great arrangement.

Not only an entertaining UkeTube, an educational one. Great job!

What a nice little piece by Naive Thieves right there.

Thanks Al for the mention on the blogs. I have had some amazing research help from some local friends. I have been really glad to add to the Baritone videos because these are the harder ones to find.

I tell Jeff that Humble Uker is a gem, that a gem
needn’t be big to be valuable. His renewed attention
to Humble Baritonics is reaping dividends
as a premiere baritone site is in the process of
being built. And yes, his video research assistance
    is, in fact, amazing.

Great stuff. Hadn’t heard Naive Thieves before. It makes me laugh that the hipsters have found the uke. But it was very good, so I’m happy about it.

Merci beaucoup Al, for your kindness and your tip top Work ;°)

    Wonderful lot woodshed, thanks!

Love the last song. Such a nice relaxing tune.

Jimmy: That would certainly be… erm… interesting.

Herman: I would have put money on Coralie Clement being your favourite this week.

Hobbit: He does need to sing louder. I searched for other videos of that song and the same problem there.

byjimini: I like them. It’s worth checking out the rest of the videos in that session.

Jeff: Thanks for finding those videos.

    Ron: Agreed. Complete gem!

John: Even hipsters are welcome here.

Little 6ster: Thanks for your contribution!

    muz: Glad you enjoyed.

Wood shed:I now I did hesitate a lot but it was more about skating then ukuleles!

I enjoyed Naieve Theives, sure there were some level problems but the guy on the right’s Dali moustache made up for that. Such a happy riff.

  13. J-Hob June 3rd, 2010 10:13 am

A lot of variety there this week, cheers!

  14. Woodshed June 6th, 2010 12:16 pm

    Jam: It’s certainly magnificent.

    J-Hob: Glad you enjoyed.

Hey, just wanted to thank everyone for the nice comments on our video! This is Cameron from Naive Thieves, (“flat at”, “Dali”, “Hipster” Thief). I really appreciate everyone’s comments…agreed, the vocals should have been a little more audible, but hey…it was our first time playing our songs to anyone! If anyone is interested, our first EP is available for free on our website NaiveThieves.com. Hopefully Uke Hunt will feature more videos!
