Olof Arnalds, Meursault: UkeTube

A rare occurrence this week: three videos from the same person. You may as well just visit Lila Burns’s channel this week rather than reading the post because I’ve also nicked two of the videos from her favourites.

One of them is Ólöf Arnalds for whom I’m stretching the rules (she plays charango). When you hear her I’m sure you’ll realise why. If you want to hear more, there’s a charango song she did with Bjork on Pitchfork.

Lila Burns – Forget To Remember

Meursault – One Day This’ll All Be Fields

Ólöf Arnalds – Klara

The Bobby McGee’s – Bang Bang Bang!

Peggy Sue – February Snow

Lila Burns – The Seasons

Todd Baio – Ol’ Cowhand

Shred Kelly – Ghost Inside My Head

Rusty Cage – The Quiet Things That No One Ever Knows

Anni B Sweet- Take On Me

Lila Burns – Remix to Ignition

Not a single vid here that I didn’t enjoy. Woodshed hits the AbFab level.

After several shots of good bourbon, much cogitating & a lot of vacillating I pick as my absolute fave…

Todd’s wonderfully stripped down version of Old Cowhand.

But it was really hard because the Bobby McGees rocked me hard and Lila Burns’ style did much the same and Anni B Sweet’s vid was massively hip and Shred Kelly had the most awesome kid fanbase and Ólöf Arnalds’ was hot (and right outta my home turf) if somewhat hard to follow because of the different language and… well, you get the idea.

    Thanks!

Anni B Sweet was great though I feel I was missing the significance of the Donnie Darko suits and time shifts. Very slick!

Rusty Cage – frat band meets ukulele?

Jimmy: Usually it’s the songs where you take the lead that people can’t understand.

tenaciousflea: He’s got some good songs of his own too.

Shobs: I didn’t quite get that either. Usually I don’t condone uke smashing either. But with a Mahalo Flying-V I can quite understand.

On the Klara song — cool vintage charango. Don’t see older ones very much because they all implode after x amount of time.

  10. Woodshed June 26th, 2010 5:07 pm

Jake: Makes sense. There’s a fair bit of tension on there.

I love meursault! What are the chords?

  12. Christopher January 3rd, 2011 12:27 am

On the meursault song I get:

    Verses
    Bb Dm F C
    Gm Dm F C

    Chorus
    F C Gm F
    F C Gm Dm

Throughout he’s accenting the chords with a C (3rd fret on the A string), fun to play.
