Those Darlins, Animated Videos: UkeTube

Three of today’s videos come courtesy of Jeff’s series of animated videos. Flesh and blood offerings come include Those Darlins (who are my biggest band crush since The Detroit Cobras), a new song from Sophie Madeleine (with one more on Wild Honey Pie where you can also learn why Sophie is friends with dicks and whores) and Hellogoodbye being a bit quiet.

Those Darlins – Snaggle Tooth Mama

nuvoleasorpresa – Minor Swing

Sophie Madeleine – The Rhythm You Started

Les Mecs du Nord – Soucoupe Volante

KIRBY KRACKLE – Zombie Apocalypse

Hat and Tie – The Hat Song

KidcatLofi – Heart

Hellogoodbye – When We First Met

Savannah Smith – 4 Walls

I <3 Hat Song. Are there any chords/tabs up for it here?

I have to thank you for rounding up interesting videos to listen to each week, Al…it’s a daunting task.

All this weeks videos are good, but Savannah Smith’s song is outstanding. Her songwriting and vocal style are unique and immediately identifiable. That’s super. Her chord voicings create a good atmosphere. How does she get such a decent sound from a ukulele with a pickup?
    Oh…being in tune really helps.

Sophie Madeleine Does it again! nuvoleasorpresa with Minor Swing is nice of course but I don’t like the plectrum on a ukuelele!

Savannah Smith – Wonderful Performer & Song.

not a stinker in the bunch this week, Al. great job!

while I generally agree with Mr. Vandecauter, I love Minor Swing and nuvoleasorpresa’s version rocked. so let ’em use picks if that’s what blows their hair back.

my friend Scott Andrew plays bass with Kirby Krackle (though not on this tune, obviously). it was a nice collision between his world and mine though. and a great novelty tune and video.

dear Hat & Tie, a fez is not just for Shriners in tiny cars. good vid & song nonetheless.

I recently acquired a ukulele w/pickup from Mainland Ukulele (hiya, Craig!). it was mainly for those all-too-often times I end up playing somewhere with a clueless sound person, but I’ve been quite amazed by the sound that comes out of it. a little treble roll-off, a little mid-range boost, et voilà! a great sound.

Craig: Yeah, Savannah is really talented. I can’t wait to hear more from her.

Herman: This week’s charming lady award goes to the singer from Those Darlins as far as I’m concerned.

Herman and Hobbit: I’m usually against picks with ukes but the guy sounds good with it so he gets a pass.

Hey, I and my fellow pick players are loud &
proud and out of the ukulele closet now, so don’t expect us to give up our seats on or step to the back of the ukulele bus any longer. Those dark days of ukulele history are over.

You know my thoughts on Zombie Apocalypse, Al, re the Dent May influence.
Glad you and others enjoy the videos Jeff posts
on HU. It’s time consuming work for his video scout, though the recent animations were fun to dig up.

Nice selection once again Al, nice selection of “Uke Girls” too which is always good. Sophie’s song sticks out for me, she has a lovely song-writing style I think and a very sweet voice to back it up.
    Cheers! -S
