Talilele Ukulele Orchestra, Uke’s Not Dead: UkeTube

Two nominees for last year’s video of the year in this week’s selection (be sure to cast your vote if you haven’t yet). But the act that caught my attention (thanks to Humble Uker) was the Talilele Ukulele Orchestra from Kobe. They’re stretching the instruments used and creating a massive sound.

Also this week Uke’s Not Dead singing about Jeremy Kyle (think Jerry Springer without a sense of humour), Des O’Connor and Tricity Vogue singing a song that sounds like a Jeremy Kyle show (don’t listen to that song- I’m warning you), me breaking the Beatles embargo and more besides.

If you’re still jonesing for more: here’s William H Macy busting out the uke for pro-choice and an interesting video from Richard Durrant.

Thanks for including me Al. You made me smile.

    Thanks Al.
(could it be the shortest vid you’ve ever posted perhaps?)

first: thanks much for including my latest vid!

    re: Talilele Ukulele Orchestra: wow.

dunno Jeremy Kyle (not being a Brit and all that) but I like the song and the video.

always love the Wellies, but this one was especially nice.

Juliet Pang: one of the best arrangements (including mine) I’ve heard of this tune.

[sour grapes warning] sometimes I wish I was a cute girl–or at least skinny–because I’m all paranoid about doing covers since my little adventure with having a vid taken down and I see marvelous covers like this all over the place. *sigh* [/end sour grapes warning]

    re: sandfordandsong: damn! that’s hawt.

re: Tricity Vogue: pit-a-pat pit-a-pat <— my heart

Evan Edinger's song was a fab bit of geek humor as well as just a good tune.

Bella… she may think she's writing new pop tunes, but she's really writing wonderful neo-folk. this is not a diss! folk tunes are simple, direct, and to the point. this is a good thing.

(though I think just learning the chords would be better than using the capo. but you know me by now.)

Phredd is always phabulous. ’nuff said.

(did I miss any? don’t think so.)

    great collection, Al! thanks again.

Jeremy Kyle – brilliant. Never thought I would say that.

All the credit goes to the research talent: Ron Hale.

sanford(andsong) – Is that the claw hammer technique? Sounded skillful and looked a blur! :D

A nice selection of mother humping, geeky maths, milking cows and cups of tea.

My Dad is alway hard on people who use a capo too – I think use it if it helps. I wasn’t sure if the capo was to input C and output Eb as I couldn’t make out the chords. I was wondering if it would have been any more difficult to play without the capo?

I wonder if anyone is geeky enough to analyse that?

These videos are just crazy, love them. The Ukulele orchestra is brilliant, some sound. Cheers for posting these.

Nice videos everyone. I love the Jeremy Kyle one. The Indie intro fooled me,turned out to be Rockin Roll . Nice cover of I shall be released.
I can identify with Howlin Hobbit.

Claudio – i wouldn’t say it’s the clawhammer technique. It seems that it has a very specific strumming strategy that my video doesn’t have. I’d say i’m following more of a banjo/dobro finger “rolling” technique, or the kind of finger picking that Albert Lee is known for…

Wow thanks! I’m glad you liked my song and video! Something I’ve always been curious of though is why this site is referred to as uke hunt.. spoken out loud, that sounds…. lol
Anywho, really good other videos too! (Thanks again!)

  11. Howlin' Hobbit February 16th, 2011 4:38 pm

@Evan — it’s called Uke Hunt because Al’s a bit of a Jack the lad.

that, of course, is what I like about him.

  12. Evan February 17th, 2011 4:41 am

@BilboBaggins – hahahaha, so it was on purpose okay. I’ve always wondered. Everytime someone tells me where they got the chords I lol

Paul: Never thought I’d allow a comment that said that on the blog.

Jeff: He sends you all the good tip-offs!

Claudio: I say use a capo if you feel like it. I used one for one of my tunes.

Rob NY: Good to see the cultural barrier didn’t stop you enjoying Jeremy Kyle.

Evan: Yes, it was on purpose. There are a few reasons for it. The main one is to scare off people who shouldn’t be visiting the site anyway.

Hobbit: If I was a real Jack the lad I’d swear more than I actually do. I’ve never used the C word on the blog and only occasionally dropped the F bomb.

  14. Howlin' Hobbit February 17th, 2011 5:36 pm

ah! didn’t realize swearing more was part of the job description. I was more referring to the “rogue you can’t help but liking” part.

  15. Aimee February 19th, 2011 7:30 pm

… Motherly Love might just be the best song i’ve ever heard. EVER.

Howling Hobbit is brilliant, Jeremy Kyle is excellent (?!) and I especially like Phredd!

On another note… I have missed ukehunt!

  16. Woodshed February 20th, 2011 11:39 am

Aimee: Thanks. It feels like I’ve been back for ages but I suppose it’s only been a few weeks.

    My big respect to all!

Ukulele is a medicine for me working as a stress relief after “hard days work”.
I really enjoy learning ukelele and a bit song writing and mixing. This interest returned to me with purchase of the first Ukulele about 5 years ago.
Want to express my bigget respect to Howling Hobbit. His U-Tube videos were a trigger for me to step into the UKULELE WORLD!

For Your attention a short song inspired by love to family:
