Mel Torme, Camera Obscura: UkeTube

In honour of the weather warming up a bit here (with apologies to those places under snow) a couple of summery tunes this week from Hellogoodbye and Shugo Tokumaru.

Highlight of the week is the video of Mel Torme busting out the bari that Shelley discovered. And there’s plenty more jazz this week from Sarah Maisel, Honey and the Baldies and Eugene singing a song that could be my theme tune.

Mel Torme – Quiet Night

Thanks to Shelley.

Hellogoodbye – When We First Met

Shugo Tokumaru – Malerina

Bosko & Honey, Jontom and Jim D’Ville – Take Five

Sarah Maisel – Don’t Get Around Much Anymore/Moonglow

John and Micky Tose – Ty a gardd/Mopsi don

Wisdom Tooth – Station Wagon

Camera Obscura – Some Guys Have All The Luck

Eugene – You’re In Style When You’re Wearing A Smile

The Be Arthurs – Rock Your Body

Can’t access the Hellogoodbye video in the States.

Also, I’m a bit tired of pop songs covered ironically on the ukulele.

Craig: Thanks. I wish they wouldn’t do that. Hopefully this version will work for everyone.

I only see the Mel Torme video. Is this…somehow a me problem?

Carrie: Oh balls. I’ve had problems with DailyMotion before. Are you using Safari?

I think I’ll just get rid of it. Thanks for the heads-up.

sanford: Thanks. Should be fixed now. A shame I had to get rid of the Mel Torme, I hope people bother to click through.

Works fine now. I am on Safari…is there some sort of compatibility issue? Is this yet another glaring sign that I should switch from Safari to any better browser?

Would love it if you could work out & post the chords for the Camera Obscura song Some Guys Have All The Luck (the song isn’t on Chordie).

The Bosko and Honey was lovely, love picked Uke. The Sarah Maisel was great too, a lovely easy style.

    Cheers for the links!

Nice post. Really liked Mel Torme, Take 5, and Don’t Get Around Much Anymore.

Is it just me or is that Wisdom Tooth video weird, like its a moving picture instead of a video? It’s like Flickr’s coming to life.

Knowing Spring is springing somewhere gives us poor Alaskan schmucks hope that, in 2 months time, it will be Spring here too. But the snow is receding up the mountains. That keeps me going.

Lovely videos, Al! Thanks so much.

    Hooray for Mel Torme!

  13. J-Train March 13th, 2011 3:41 am

Anyone know where I can find chords for the Mel Torme song?

Sarah Maisel was brilliant, great looking & sounding Uke.
Cheers for the old jazz standards.
    Always a pleasure!

Good choice on Eugene’s cover of Smile. He covers all kinds of oldies on the uke and this is one of my favorites.

Carrie: I think it’s more a problem with DailyMotion. I’ve had all sorts of problems with them in the past.

    gnomepower: It’s D – Bm – G – A all the way through.

    Simbosan: You’re welcome.

Ben: It does look a bit strange. I put it down to it being in portrait.

Emily: It’ll be bikini weather before you know it.

Rob: Indeed. That’s a cracking video.

    J-Train: There’s a version of it here.

    Gary: Glad you enjoyed.

Marymac: Yeah, he’s been putting up a lot of videos recently and they’re excellent.

Hey, check out my ukulele tune ;) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=auL87pnWy6o

I like Mel Torme and Antonio Carlos Jobim so glad I did click through undeterred. Sounds better sung in Portuguese IMHO but there you are. And I wish he’d played the Uke a bit louder so’s I could hear it. Gave me time to be struck by how he looks like Rick Astley in profile though…?

Gonnae listen to the others now.

Thanks for posting Honey and the Baldies! There’s a version of them playing it at the last night of MUF here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=trZUcxpEc50
Also really enjoyed the Shugo Tokumaru track and the Camera Obscura cover. Cheers

    Alex: Nice work.

Iain: I thought he looked like a Simpsons version of Alfred Hitchcock in profile.

    Dean: Thanks for the link.

Trevor: Give yourself a pat on the back!

Joe: Thanks very much. I’ve added it to the post. Should have thought of it myself.

Torme used his uke pretty regularly during his club performances in the early to mid-sixties.

  24. Juliano March 15th, 2011 2:40 am

I have a song that I also take a look.
