Nick Lucas Ukulele Trio: UkeTube

Two songs this week from the original Mr Tiptoe Through the Tulips Nick Lucas along with the new single from tUne-yArDs (if you want more of her, NPR recorded a show at SXSW). tUnE-yArDs’s new album, w h o k i l l, is coming out soon and I can’t wait.

One video that didn’t make the cut but will interest some is this one from Sungha Yung. You may remember him as the little guitar playing kid who caused a big stir a few years ago. He’s now grown up and graduated to uke.

In non-uke videos, check out this channel for some incredible videos from the late 20s/early 30s. Every one is a gem. And I did wonder if I could count this as a banjolele.

Very excited about the new tune-yards, and this vid bodes well for what’s to come (the only beef i had with the debut cd was perhaps a slight lack of discipline in the production/editing department)

Another enjoyable one f/ Ian Emmerson. I’d love to hear him tackle something by Ian Dury for some reason…

Brittni Paiva is great. Nice technique, great tone, and non of the smug mugging for the camera like one other female uke-ist who’s had much exposure as of late…

Damn that sod for having a Cuatro – I restrung my LP uke with Cuatro strings and I can’t get it to sound decent. Love Veronica & Red Wine Serenaders.

Cautro!!! Where! I’ve wanted one of those for ages! Too bad i’m poor and they cost about £60 plus to ship from south america and are rarely for sale in the U.K- one day though i shall get one!

If I didn’t detest I’m Yours I’d be way impressed with Sungha Jung. No surprise he’s playing an Anuenue, sneaky fiends.

Hey, Al: Domingo’s got the blues…
A number of videos of Nick Lucas doing Tiptoe
on guitar. My two favorites are the 1929 Gold Diggers of Broadway performance and the 1944 more low-key Castle Films performance…Also like Brittni’s looping cover of Teenage Dream… Better Than Nothing ranks right up there with the stuff that turned my brain to mush back in the ’60s. Lavish praise, indeed…

loving the rosie jones video, she’s really excellent, i used to be in a ukulele band with her and some other lovely talented people when i was in first year, oddly back then she played the mandolin.

    Herman: Glad you enjoyed.

sanford: I can’t wait for the new Tune-yards. I hope it’s all as good as this.

    byjimini: Some day, eh?

    PaulC: Definitely!

thehighlandcal: It would be nice if it were easier to buy more out-of-the-way instruments without ordering from another continent.

Jimmy: I’m not too keen on his ukulele style in general. Not as in-your-face as his guitar playing.

Ron: Thanks. I’ll check those out.

    Rob: Glad you liked.

    todd: You’re very welcome!

L.bo: Thanks for the link. Loved Hal’s performance.

cbf: Small world! How come I still haven’t seen any videos of you playing?
