Denver City Saltlicks, Celisse Henderson: Saturday UkeTube

A genre hopping week this week with soul from Celisse Henderson, backwoods punk from the Denver City Saltlicks (and check out their badass diddley bow riffing) and reggae from Tribal Theory along with the usual bits of instrumental wizardry and girls with jazzy voices.

If you’re looking for some non-uke action, take a listen to some Malawian diddley bow action and Wu Man playing the 4-string Chinese pipa.

while there’s lots of win here, I like Celisse Henderson and Helen Keller’s Ukulele best.

strong feelings of goodness for all the doghouse bass showing up too.

What caught my attention, Al, along with the catchy tune, of course, in the Phantoms video and had me watchng it so many times (and before you posted it here) was the drummer. So shoot me.

And Paul Luongo, former member and soloist with the Langley Ukulele Ensemble, is Peter’s son, of course, although you’ll have look long and hard
online to find this out. He teaches, too.

@Hal, if I didn’t like boys so much I’d have a big ol’ crush on Celisse too! such a voice!

loved the sound scape in whales..and the helen kellers ukulele piece was great. I especially love that she kept the little screw up in there… I get so bored with things being perfect.

    Herman: Me too!

todd: He definitely got a chuckle out of me.

Hal: A duet between you two would just be perfect.

Foinnse: I think ‘lovely nutter’ is the perfect description.

Hobbit: I’ve noticed that – there’s at least one lined up for next week’s selection too. They do sound great together.

    Aimee: Glad you enjoyed.

Stacia: Agreed! I hope she does more uke stuff.

Ron: I’m really excited to hear what Paul Luongo is going to do. I just wish he’d get a better mic.

jackalope: There’s nothing wrong with lying in a song.

Marie: If you like screw-ups, you must love my videos.
