Dreamland Faces, Bosko & Honey: UkeTube

Videos this week include Ukulollo hooking up with Craig Chee and his cello, a live song from Bosko and Honey, the Dreamland Faces and plenty more besides.

In unrelated news: Amazon UK is selling my book Ukulele for Dummies for a super cheap £6.40 at the moment. That’s 40% of the sticker price (and less than the second hand price – people are clearly loath to get rid of their copies).

I would so-o-o-o-o-o like to buy Ukulele for Dummies for Kindle but it only appears to be available for Apple products. I have an assortment of Windows and Android devices, and I even have an actual Kindle as made/sold by Amazon, but it isn’t available for them (not even Amazon’s own device!).

Any hope UFD will be available for something other than Apple thingys soon?

Garret: Not that I know of, I’m afraid. But I usually hear about this sort of thing when it’s released. So you never know.

Me again. In the section ‘Book Description’ for the paper version of the book on Amazon it says:

“Note – CD–ROM/DVD and other supplementary materials are not included as part of the e–book file, but are available for download after purchase.”

Is it that the videos are embedded for Apple gadgets but not for other operating systems, but you can get them anyway, just not so neatly?

That would be fine as I could read the text on my Kindle and watch/listen to the files on my laptop.

You know, Al, it might be fun to start posting some bad uke videos. As in horrible. How could someone do this? Why would someone do this?

We’ve all seen them. Accept submissions from readers. Post them every so often. Have a parallel award for worst uke video of the year.
    Interview the winner(s).

These needn’t be X-rated stuff. Although you could use one Saturday each year for them, too. Plenty to choose from.

Bet this would be a lot more fun than the usual best video poll. Better include a separate ‘Worst Brazilian Ukulele Video’ category though.

Wouldn’t want to skew the results for everyone else.

Why not run all previous years’ winners and let readers re-rate them? Or revisit winners in a
    ‘Whatever happened to…’ angle.

Some seem to have dropped off the face of the earth. Speaking of which — whatever happened to…

Dent May? I’d mention Tim Sweeney but I just saw some one-month-old videos from the recent Cape Cod Uke Fest in which he plays a graphite uke.

Anyway, ‘Whatever happened to …..?’ could be a new feature for Uke Hunt. Plenty of subjects for it.

Garret: You can download the mp3s from http://booksupport.wiley.com/ (search for ukulele in the title). I’m not sure if they’ve added the videos to that. If not, send me an email and I’ll pass on the links.

Ron: Here’s a catchup for you:

Molly Lewis – still touring and making music.
Rod Thomas – still touring and making music (as Bright Light Bright Light).
Manitoba Hal – still touring and making music.
A Banda Mais Bonita – still touring and making music.
U900 – released a Beatles cover record then choked on each other’s vomit in a Helsinki brothel. Let them serve as a lesson to all.

The last time I checked, Amazon only supported a book’s multimedia content on the iPad’s Kindle software.

The Kindle’s multimedia edition still works on other Kindle platforms, but the edition will only show the book’s text, formatting and figures. There’s no sound or video.

But since you can download the MP3s from Wiley’s site, that may not be a problem for you.
