Steven Tyler, Jim Boggia: UkeTube

Votes are pouring in for the Ukulele Video of the Year. A big early lead for Sophie Madeleine but the others are slowly catching up. Make sure you cast your vote before the deadline.

An early contender for my nomination for the 2013 list from Catey Shaw with a song that’s been run, run, running through my head all week. Also up is Steven Tyler doing an Aerosmith classic with Halemanu, Da Ukulele Boyz rip it up, Jim Boggia covers one of the most covered songs ever and plenty more.

Well, according the Independent, Al, the most covered songs ever are –

    1. Eleanor Rigby 2. Yesterday 3. Cry Me A River
    4. And I Love Her 5. Satisfaction 6. Imagine
    7. Summertime 8. Blackbird 9. Somewhere Over the
Rainbow 10. The Look of Love

If they say say so, but it looks dicey to me. Of course, I’m thinking in terms of covering songs on record. When you take cover bands playing at the local bar/pub/dance and people covering songs online then perhaps the list holds up.

A list of uke-covered songs would be interesting.

Speaking of which… It’s probably just me, but bring back the REAL ‘Over the Rainbow’ to the ukulele world, please. And don’t try saying the Iz version is the real one. It’s burying the real one. No doubt it’s the most covered version now.

Not a bad video list. Not easy to comb through new uploads to find good ones. Takes time. And you still end up missing some of the best ones.

An early contender for my 2013 list comes from the
Mysavearth YT channel: an animation of the Irene Skylakaki song ‘In the Light’.

You don’t see as may uke animations as you used to. Professional quality videos such as this one are truly rare.

If people want their videos to catch Sophie’s perhaps they can contact Rodrigo Lemos and he can organize a campaign to close the gap.

Lemoskine have two nice new videos out by the by.
Offbeat YT channel: ‘Cabeca de Disco’ and ‘Musica de Novela’. Definitely worth checking out.

    Make that ‘Offbeataudio’ YT channel.

The Lemoskine videos may be repostings of earlier ones rather than new ones. Oh well…

How come the Steve Tyler piece is on your list of ‘best vid’? It’s a bit of a ropey performance, awful production, and the geezer playing the mutant uke isn’t very good, too much background chatter from the audience. It’s basically shite, and you have probably displaced a 100 much more worthy efforts to give him some air time. You’re entitled to your own preferences, but you are also in a privileged position with your internationally acclaimed uke site, to promote worthy productions and artistes, not shore up millionaire has beens who had a few too many beers in a karaoke bar……jus’ saying!

    Ron: Beatles covers don’t count.

Caroline: Where are you quoting that “best vid” from? These posts are my favourites that I’ve come across. The point of them isn’t primarily to give musicians exposure but to give readers some music to enjoy on the weekend. Which is why I like to include a variety – since it’s very easy to skip something you don’t like.

Loving the band Jack video (but which one is jack???). Makes me want a banjolele even more. Do you know if they make those with nylon strings? I dunno if my fingers could take steel strings…

Also, a Se L’Aura Spira tutorial would be awesome :D just sayin’

  13. Woodshed March 2nd, 2013 1:49 pm

a guijon: Most banjoleles will have nylon strings.
