RIP MusicGuyMike: Friday Links

Sad news this week that Michael Aratani has died. Better know as MusicGuyMic, he was the internet’s most loved ukulele seller. His eBay store always had the newest and most interesting ukuleles. After illness and eBay fees forced him to shut that down he returned and had recently been working with Hawaii Music Supply. He’s a big loss to the ukulele world.

sorry to hear about MGM. never met him, but I did business with him and talked to him on the phone a few times.

I bought a couple ukes from him too, and also talked to him on the phone. I also always enjoyed his videos. He seemed like a Prince among men and was much loved by the uke community.

    RIP MGM. A kind person.

Bet MGM’s joined the staff at Paradise Ukes, Al. Shop’s a bit shorthanded what with John King busy with his history of Heaven.

On the subject of uke history: Let those two idlers deal with the past. It’s been done to death already. In excruciating detail for connoisseurs of such.

The crying need now is for someone to pick up the threads from earlier accounts and bring them up to the present day. Modern ukulele history for dummies.

With a thriving 3rd Wave, social media, videos and such a ripping yarn could be made from what’s happening right now.

Your job, should you decide to take it…

On new releases: Was browsing CD Baby for uke stuff the other day (infinitely better than Amazon with its Jake/Eddie Veddar/Surf Zombies emphasis) and came across Zahra’s 2013 album, “Postmortem of a Monster.” Didn’t know she had one.

Download only. Don’t know if you’ve mentioned it here but know you like her.

And just in time for your holiday shopping how about the Quad-a-Moe?

Hobbit, Phredd and Rob: Thanks for the tributes.

Ron: I didn’t know she’d released a CD. I’ll give it a mention in the next links post.

So sorry to hear about MusicGuyMic. I bought my first Kala from him. So much more than just a seller — he cared about ukes and he cared about people.

Mike P.: He’s definitely missed. There’s no one else like him around.
