Amanda Palmer, General Fiasco: UkeTube

Plenty of videos to choose from over the break. The most striking is Amanda Palmer returning to her outrageous (and NSFW) best with a new style and a welcome ode to big muffs from her new album.

Also up General Fiasco (looking dapper in their Burberry makeovers), Uni with the least Uni-like song title you could imagine, a good cover of Tip Toe… and plenty more.

Amanda Palmer & The Young Punx – Map of Tasmania (NSFW)

d0y0uwantt0 – Staying Alive

Olive Juice – RESPECT

General Fiasco – Sinking Ships

Rachel Goodrich – Tip Toe Through the Tulips

Ben Lerman – Ben Lerman Plays the Ukulele (NSFW)

plexophonic – Bounce of the Sugar Plum Fairy

Via UkeToob.

Sanford and Song – Nature Without Man

Ian Emmerson – What’s the title?

Lila Burns – Witching Hour

Bella Hemming – Don’t Be Afraid

howetoob – Juveniles (Walkmen Cover)

Ukulele Minutemen! That was very fun.

Bravo for d0y0uwantt0 & Anne McCue I can wait!:)
Uni is a case on it’s own pro work.

I thought the staying alive cover was pretty sweet! I also kind of liked the “bounce of the sugar plum fairy” track. Weird but good. And the Amanda palmer song was just gloriously nuts….

will have to come back, but really enjoyed Ian Rocking that Makala Uke!

Seems you win the Pushing The Envelope Award for the week, Al. I’ve never been able to get Ben Lerman on HU, and as for AFP’s geography lesson, let’s just say it never stood a chance.

Now, my own favorite of the week is one that I just stumbled onto a couple of days ago. This
is a 2007 video of a 1994 performance of the song, My Man Rocks Me (With a Steady Roll) –

    Cool uke & a blow-you-away voice…

mighty fine picks this time, Al.

besides liking my usual suspects I really dug the Bounce of the Sugar Plum Fairy, d0y0uwantt0 actually made me enjoy Staying Alive (which kind of scares me, truth be told) and the gal in Olive Juice has a hella set of pipes.

    and oh yeah… @Sandford&Song — dude! decaf! ;-)

    thanks Al and Alec

hey HH! It’s punk rock! couldn’t help myself!

(it also seems quite apparent that i really have to step up my production values. all the other vids make mine look like absolute shit…)

Great collection of vids & music. The bar is getting higher all the time.

*sigh* Too much good music out there!
Funny you should mention Amanda Palmer. Here in Boston we love her as our home town girl, but we still consider her as, like, the last person in the world to discover that playing covers on uke is fun.

Well it seems unfair to lead off with Amanda Palmer – all the others seem pallid in comparison!

Some really nice selections here though – I especially liked Ben Lerman, Lila Burns and General Fiasco.

oh, I was slow to watch these this week… it appears that the Vimeo links are gone- but that might just be my side of the ocean?
    always love Lila Burns…
    great little selection this week.

I take that back… the links are working again.

byjimini: Lila’s stuff is always good.

Ambient: Me too. Not a fan of everything she does but this one is tops.

Alec: Sanford is the one guy whose uke skills I’m completely jealous of.

Herman: One day I’ll find a video you like by a guy!

    Foinnse: Glad you liked.

todd: Almost makes me want to get a Makala for myself.

Ron: Thanks for that link. She’s got a great voice. Just wish the uke was a bit more in tune.

Hobbit: Is there such thing as extra-caf coffee. If so, I say give him that.

    Sanford: Always a pleasure.

swervy: Thanks. I’m glad to be back.

steve-o-reno: It certainly is. Looking back at the early UkeTube posts it’s really clear how much higher the quality is now.

Mike: Definitely someone Boston should be proud of. There should be a statue.

Marymac: She’s certainly a hard act to follow.

    Bojan: Thanks.

Marie: Vimeo can be a bit tempramental. It was probably that causing the problem.

Wouldn’t it be possible to get the chords and tabs of the “Staying alive” uke cover. I love this version ^^

  19. Woodshed February 17th, 2011 11:10 am

Torr: I might well do that.

  20. George December 20th, 2011 11:51 pm

Would it be possible to know the tab for Sinking Ships by General Fiasco please? I cant seem to find it anywhere on the internet:)
