Pua Lililehua (Tab)

Pua Lillehua

When I asked about instrumental versions of songs, the message was they’re fine but could I do some easier ones. Your wish is my command (unless it’s a stupid wish) so here’s a very straightforward arrangement of Pua Lililehua. There’s no fancy picking – it’s all done with the thumb – and you don’t move higher than the 4th fret.

If you’re looking for a more interesting arrangement, check out John King’s version.

    very nice arrangement there woodshed.
i have to say i really like the instrumentals but i wouldn’t say the difficulty has been too unreasonable, the tricky arrangements if anything add to the overall impression in my opinion.

Thanks for something easier. I’m definitely going to give this one a go.

cardboardfrog: the tricky arrangements add to the overall impression for sure, but also to my frustration at being unable to play them. I’ll get there sooner or later, but it might take me a while.

Very nice. Love the easy stuff Al. I did a double take on the shirt. It looks good on you!

Somehow you really read my mind on this one. I was just in a folk music store searching in vain for hawaiian tunes for ukulele in this sort of format…not super hard picking, but enough to make the song much more interesting…beyond just chords. I would love to see more of this kind of thing for all types of music, but Hawaiian ones in particular. This was perfect, thank you!

Tip top – I’m delaying the start of the Battle of Hastings to demonstrate the joy to 30 year 7s

Hi Al, any chance of getting the chord shapes printed above the tabs to help with working out the correct fingering, or am I just too much of a beginner?

This is far too easy – I could learn this in just 14 hours :)

I do love a nice simple achievable arrangement.

I’ve got that Mark Kailana Nelson Fingerstyle Solos book and this reminds of that kind of stuff. My fav to play and listen to from it is E Ku’u Morning Dew by Eddie Kamae. I should make a video of it.

cbf: I’ll still be doing tricky ones as well. Probably more than easy ones.

    Simon: Good luck with it.

pepamahina: Yeah, I’ll be trying this with non-Hawaiian stuff too. There are a few arrangements like this in the book I’m working on.

    Shobs: Hope it went well.

igettheledout: It really is worth learning to read tab.

    Claudio: That’s an excellent book.

Rob: I wear it quite often. I’m surprised it hasn’t been in any of my other videos.

Nice, I enjoyed that – now for a go at the John King version! :o)

    Nice version, sounds very sweet!

I don’t want to come across as tooting my own horn, but you can have a shot at the John King version with a little help from my tabbing effort:

Thanks for the tab, I’ve been looking for another easy yet beautiful song to play on the ukulele. I think I found it.
