Five Funky Riffs

I am so excited that there’s a new Lefties Soul Connection album on the way. They’re easily the funkiest Dutchmen ever to strut the earth. So in anticipation I decided to tab up a few of the funkiest ever riffs.

I’ve tried to keep them in the original key. It’s not always the best key to play them in but it does mean you can funk along with the songs.

The Meters – Cissy Strut

Cissy

The Meters – Funky Miracle

Two riffs from The Meters because they were so badass. The only band badassier were The Bar-Kays and I might end up doing a full rundown of Soul Finger sometime.

Funky

Stevie Wonder – Superstition

Superstition

Funkadelic – Hit It and Quit It

HitIt

Rick James – Super Freak

SuperFreak

My Oh MY…must be Spring…bulbs are sproutin’, birds are chirpin’, and the Ukers are gettin’ FUNKY.
My husband put Soul Finger on a “mixed tape” for me back when they actually were “tapes”. I could stand that one for sure. I’d like to see how you’re going to squeal like that trumpet though?

Nice! And yes, a full work up of soulfinger would be a truly wonderful thing. Brings back fond memories of ‘Spies like us’

I just got back f/ a week in New Orleans, so seeing the Meters on Ukehunt is very timely for me indeed. Sadly, i saw no trace of their existence while I was there…
(I think two of the original members still perform as “The Funky Meters”)

pepamahina: Tapes! I remember those. Here’s the all-uke version of Soul Finger I did. If I could remember how I played it tabbing it would be easier.

mictoboy: I feel sure I watched that film back in the day but I can’t remember a thing about it.

sanford: You left just before Mardi Gras?

Sad but true. Had a small window of opportunity to vacation (We’re already planning to book ahead for mardi gras 2012 tho. Apparently booking a year in advance is necessary to getting good accommodations…)
It’s such an amazing city I’d encourage anyone to visit it no matter the time of year.

p.s. as a fan of the Bar-kays I hope you’ve seen the documentary Wattstax?

I am the only one who keeps on playing Rick James and shouting ‘Can’t Touch This!’? :$

Jelle: Certainly not. I was singing it when I was working it out.
