Jim D’Ville looks at the science of learning to play by ear.

New French ukulele magazine.

The Rights of Man on Uker Tabs.

MP3s: Big favourite of mine, Lila Burns has an album of demos up on Bandcamp. Helen Arney was on the Infinite Monkey radio show/podcast and you can download the track she played free on Bandcamp. Diane Extein is doing a ukulele songwriting challenge and putting up a free song a week on Bandcamp.

I’ve been away from decent Internet all week, so please do enlighten me and everyone else with any (non-Vedder) links you’ve seen this week.

Aw, ccm’on, Al…we need MORE posts about The Vedder. Now that it’s cool to play ukulele. And more about that ‘Jake’ guy while you’re at it.

I’m definitely a fan of figuring things out by ear. It’s particularly handy since there are so few tabs out there for so much on the uke.

Be sure to catch the brand new video –

“Honeymoon” – Bosko & Honey rehearse a new
    original song (ukulele)
    bosko&honey

    But wait, there’s more…

The Ukulele Festival of Great Britain –
    After-show boozy pub jam
    claudioscola

    Afraid that’s it, Al.

Well, there is one more. Was just over at Amazon and noticed they’re taking pre-orders for “Ukulele Songs for Dummies.” People should not confuse this and Al’s “Ukulele for Dummies.”

Both are being offered together as a pre-order for $31.95.

Sorry to be the out of the loop one…but why the Vedder sarcasm?

  9. Craig Robertson June 28th, 2011 4:34 am

@Josh because a little self promotion is fine, but a virtual waterfall of narcissism is embarassing.

  10. Craig Robertson June 28th, 2011 4:35 am

    that’s “embarrassing”

  11. Josh June 28th, 2011 4:36 am

Craig: He plays great music and I don’t much mind the virtual waterfall of narcissism.

  12. Craig Robertson June 28th, 2011 4:40 am

@Josh That’s YOUR prerogative, and you’re welcome to ‘not mind’ it all you want. But not everyone feels that way. and, for the record, I like his CD.

  13. Josh June 28th, 2011 10:18 pm

Craig: Apologies if I came off aggressive. I’m going to his concert tonight in Chicago and I guess I’m feeling self-conscious that I paid $90 a ticket…

  14. Craig Robertson June 28th, 2011 10:24 pm

@Josh. Cool. Enjoy the concert. He just played in Boston. I guess I feel the whole ‘rock star’ thing is a bit off-putting. ($90????!!! ouch!) But he makes good music, and that’s okay by me.

  15. Josh June 28th, 2011 10:27 pm

It damn well better be good. I noticed a setlist for one of the first concerts of his tour, and it didn’t include Longing to Belong OR Satellite, two out of the three best songs on the album. If he doesn’t play those AND a uke version of All the Way (his incredible Cubbies tribute) I’m going to demand my money back. And shoot someone. I’m now debating bringing my uke to see if I can ambush him backstage and get him to sign it.

  16. Craig Robertson June 28th, 2011 10:36 pm

@Josh I heard he does the first half hour on ukulele and then switches to the band…but I wasn’t at the show. I would indeed take the ukulele and get him to sign it.
