Adele – Rolling in the Deep

Adele might be handing my ass to me in the Musical Instruction books chart, but I’m not going to hold it against her. This is too good a song not to do an instrumental version of.

The tab doesn’t include every strum I do, so tackle it in the way that feels best to you – if you’ve got a complaint about that read Christine’s comment.

The trickiest bit comes in bars 12/13. Here I’m doing a fake strum because there isn’t time to do a real strum and get back to play the rest of the bar.

Here’s a slightly simpler way of playing it:

    I can play it! Very slowly and squinting at the tabs but it’s beginning to emerge!

    Thank you SO much; I’ve had an ukulele only since 1st July (actually now I’ve got TWO :-)) but I’ve played lots of other instruments for many years.

    Your tabs have taught me to read tabs; something I never could do especially with the 5 string banjo; too confusing :-)

    May I ask which town you come from in England? I come from Bristol originally but have been in Australia for 26 years.

    how do you like the sceptre style uke? i’m thinking about getting one but i’m not sure how the shape might affect the sound

    i mean it sounds great in your videos but how would it compare to just a regular body shape?

    taylor: I really like it. I don’t think the shape has much influence on the sound. I think the fact it’s very thin might, though.

    Hi a couple of questions, when reading sheet music the what does the little curvy line that goes above and between two notes mean? I’ve been playing them like a hammer on/off.

    Also, the ‘xx’ in the first bar, I presume these are meant to make a chunking noise? How do you play these without chunking on all the strings?

    Hugo: It is a hammer-on or pull-off when there’s a different fret number linked to. Otherwise it’s a tie (the lengths of the notes are added together).

    I just play a mute on those strings, but you could do a full chnk and it would be just the same.

    could you please put up an audio of the simplified version because I know the notes but when I put them together I can’t really get the rhythm.

    This is so difficult! I’ve just about got the first part. It’s all the extra strumming and then it doesn’t sound the same. My brain hurts. But I shall practice a lot and then shall win. ^.^

    Wow. This is really just…Wow. You have played some fantastic pieces before! But I think this is my favorite. Writing this I become curious: What’s YOUR favorite Ukulele song? On UkeHunt or otherwise.
    If it’s a weird question or is actually pretty disconcerting I totally understand, though!
    In any case, thank you for posting. I cannot stop playing it. I just recently got my Ukulele back (a dear friend requested borrowing it, and really I could not refuse!) so I’m a little rusty. But this is the perfect thing to get me back up to speed. Thank you!
    P.S. It turns out I gave you a bad piece of information in regards to one of my prior comments. “Jingle Bell Rock” is totally on the list of “Christmas” songs. My apologies!

    omg how the heck did u do it. when u were playing it, i can see in your face the u were really enjoying it and i want to be the same as u when i play it. i am not going to learn how to play it coz i am only a begginer. but all i want to say is U ROCK MAN!!!!!!

    Hi Woodshed,

    great! Without knowing it I arranged a quite similar version on my harp ukulele, just saw your arrangement as related video. I think the notes are mostly the same (logically), but I especially love your strumming parts!

    I suggest you try to play your arrangement on your harp ukulele, it’s really fun with the thumb rolling the eighth notes. And I bet you do it way better than me. :-)
    Also, I would love to see more harp ukulele videos from you, your Here Comes The Sun was georgeous!

    Maybe you can post the file to your guitar pro files on the Internet in the form of a zip file? It would be much more comfortable. Or send files via e-mail, I promise you will not upload to the Internet :)
