Dire Straits – Money for Nothing

dire straits ukulele tab

MP3

Money for Nothing is one of the songs that made me pick up the guitar (“Money for nothing and chicks for free, you say? Sounds like a pretty good return on some digital blistering. I’m in.”)

I’ve taken a few liberties with this one. I’ve given it a constant G note in the background to give it a bit more stability and taken away a few of the doubled notes for ease of playing.

More guitar riffs for ukulele.

“Sounds like a good return on some digital blistering…”

    nice one, Woodshed.

Mark Knopfler is one heck of a guitar player. I’m happy to see this arrangement for the uke.

Though, you are busting out these guitar riffs way too fast for me to learn them all. Oh, the treachery.

    todd: Thanks.

Lonna: You might get some time to catch up. I’m thinking about taking a blog break sometime soon.

Oh! Say it isn’t so! I take back my earlier demise!

Or as we we used to sing when squashed in van along with the PA equipment and no chicks to be seen… money for nothing and your chips for free

  6. Olly September 24th, 2008 8:38 pm

    :o) Hmm… thanks! :o)

    You’re money Woodshed, well done

  8. Woodshed September 24th, 2008 10:16 pm

Lonna: It’ll only be a couple of weeks. I’m sure you’ll manage. I need to get the blues book done and it’s driving me round the bend.

Ukulathiest: I think chips might be even better.

    Olly: Erm… you’re welcome.

Zak: I’m staring at these claws and wondering, “How am I supposed to play the ukulele with these?”

hehe – “thats the way you do it!”

does this mean we all have an excuse to buy resonator ukes now?

  10. LonnaB September 25th, 2008 12:49 am

    Okay, okay.

I’ve been needing that blues book real bad so I guess I can manage….

I’m sure at the end Sting says:
    I want my
    I want my
    I want my ukulele

im kinda struggling with the constant g note. any ideas how i can play it without the g, and just simply fingerpicking? kinda new at the uke, but i really like to learn this one

  14. Woodshed September 24th, 2010 3:00 pm

dutch: You could probably get away with losing the G notes when there’s another note playing at the same time.

muz: Glad you’re making progress on it.

Do you have it tuned to just reg, GCEA?

  18. Woodshed July 4th, 2012 11:48 am

    Trace: Yes, I do.

Hi I’m new to the Ukelele but I really like it. I was wondering what type of Uke you are using for this riff, and as a matter of fact what type of Ukelele is best for all riffs that will impress my friends. Thanks Love your work here. :)

  20. Woodshed September 11th, 2012 10:39 am

CRAZY CUZ: I’m using an Ohana TK35G on this on. A tenor uke is going to give riffs a bit more umph. But it’s not a requirement.

can you please put a video of someone playing the song because i don’t know how to play the g string constntly
