Wilfried Welti’s Ukulele Tabs

Solo Ukulele für Einsteiger (PDF)

I’ve long been a fan of Wilfried Welti‘s arrangements of classical tunes for the ukulele. He brings a classical guitar like tone and clarity to it.

So I was very pleased that he’s allowing to spread round his tab book Solo Ukulele für Einsteiger. He insists I tell you it’s not finished, but seems pretty fantastic as it is to me.

The book contains a number of classical tunes along with folk songs from Germany and the rest of the world (such as Scarborough Fare, Kean O’Hara and Aloha Oe). You can hear a number of tunes from the book on his YouTube Channel.

Wilfried does also have a rather low-key physical book and CD of more arrangements for sale: Alte Musik mit der Ukulele. Unfortunately, it’s pretty hard to get your hands on. You can buy if from Wilfried at one of his performances or by reading up on it at the Deutscher Ukulelenclub. Hopefully, he be willing to make it more widely available because it’s also excellent.

Saw WW on You tube and was impressed, saw this and am amazed. Excellent tabs make even me (novice) sound (a little bit) like the man himself. Fantastic.

Barney: I agree. Wilfried was working on a tab book of John Dowland arrangements. I wonder what happened with it.

wonderful pieces, i love the tabs :D
But while playing them I noticed that the Gaillarde on page 28 is wrong, because it’s got a B flat notated but in the whole tab there’s the B flat notated as A string second fret :) Probably he mixed up the flat with a sharp

    Hi Matthias,
You’re right, thanks for pointing it out… it’s a bug of Powertab causing this issue, and I didn’t notice it in some tunes. The software I used for this old e-book doesn’t work any more on my computer, so I can’t fix it… I’ll get it right when I make a new version of this e-book with Lilypond.

These pieces are so much fun to dive into as a committed beginner : ) Thank you, Wilfried, for your wonderful generosity. Reminds me of someone else around here!

Also, the new version of ‘Silent Night’ up on youtube is so pretty, and so accessible to the beginner who has managed to get on with it a bit. The way it is played fits the lullaby/carol so sweetly, like cradling a baby <3

A committed beginner!? Whoa. It makes my head hurt, looking at these. :-)

Wilfried Welti‘s Solo Ukulele für Einsteiger (for beginners) book is, simply put, just great. I am practicing the tunes there and the arrangements are great for beginners and advanced beginners. Please check out my rendition of Muss i denn, the second arrangement in the book:
