Wellington International Ukulele Orchestra/Kings of Leon – The Bucket

WIUO/Kings of Leon – The Bucket (Chords)

An excellent choice of song for any ukulele group: dead easy chords and plenty of widdling for the flash Harrys.

Megan’s intro is based on the chords switching between the major and the 5 chord:

The twiddly bit that comes after that, and crops up a few times in the song, goes like this:

Or, if you want to play it fingerstyle, you can play it like this:

And there’s the little inbetweeny bit in the chorus:

“widdling for the flash Harrys”, “twiddly bit”, “little inbetweeny”

If this is as much fun to play as it is to read about, I’m game! Thanks.

    Most excellent post.

In time I will be able to read the music thanks to a wee book I recieved today…

A good friend of mine in NZ sent me a book entitled “Kiwi Ukulele” which has an endorsement on the back by….

    You, Al!

    Yay! :-)

  10. zym February 28th, 2009 3:09 pm

    @Al,

whats is the litle ‘vibrato’ bit being played at 1:32 to 1:57?

  11. Raj February 28th, 2009 9:49 pm

    Hey guys,
being new to the uke and trying to play one of my favorite songs would anyone mind helping me out with the strum pattern?

    Thank You!

  12. Charles February 28th, 2009 10:28 pm

zym, the 1:32 to 1:57 bit is just a tremelo( playing the note over and over as fast as you can) on the a string playing frets
7(for two beats) 5(for two beats) 3(for four beats)

Tuscadero: Yes, what little refinement my writing has went out the window with this post.

    Melissa: You’re very welcome.

paul: I don’t know how you managed to avoid, but glad you’ve caught on.

    Craig DJ: Thanks very much.

Rob: Thanks, but I’m definitely no master.

Alice: I’m not too keen on KoL’s more recent stuff. It’s all gone a bit U2.

zym and Charles: Yep, I’m with Charles. Thanks for that.

Raj: A lot of it is just single down strums. For the rest of it, just something simple like d – d – d u d u will get you through.

    Thanks

  21. Katie March 16th, 2011 12:09 am

That twiddly part on the the a string is played pretty quickly. Would you recommend using a pick for that part?

  27. Woodshed November 19th, 2011 10:44 pm

Jon: The Wellies play it with a pick.

I’m brand new……so forgive me if this is a stoopid question. What is the strum pattern for the cords/where do I find it/what do I presume it it?

  30. Woodshed January 9th, 2014 12:09 pm

Bethhhhh: It’s worth practicing coming up with your own stumming patterns. Here’s a couple of posts that should help:
