I think I mentioned before, I don’t own a TV any more. But I might get a TV license anyway just to support the BBC’s new ukulele orchestra. One member of the group is Radio 4’s Kathy Clugston (from off of the shipping forecast) and she recorded a jazzy version of this tune and inspired me to knock up my own version.

I’ve taken more liberties with this tune than I usually do. There are a lot of strings swirling around in the original that needed simplifying. I’ve also slowed it down and given it a strong 3/4 feel. In other words, it bears very little relation to the original at all.

    they play the theme to ‘upstairs’ every day on R4s ‘PM’ programme for their ‘Up Shares, Down Shares’ spot :)

    I’ve been in touch with PM about them playing a Uke version so I just wanted to check with you if it was OK to provide them with a link to your version as it is lovely

    Just to let you know the editor of the PM programme on Radio 4 has been back in touch and they plan to play your version of the theme next Friday, 6th November.

    It is usually on around 5.30pm or just after so listen out!

    Just heard Al rendition and it sounded lovely.

    Have emailed PM to remind them that Al was the one with the talent who played it ( I wish!!)
