Van Halen – Jump (Tab)

Download

Another glorious slice of 80s cheese. The second single I ever bought was by Valen Halen (although it was Hagar era Halen). Which was something of departure from my first ever single: Chas ‘n Dave’s Snooker Loopy. If anyone thinks they’ve got me beat in the embarrassing-first-single stakes (or CD or download if you want to make me feel old), leave a comment.

Keep the chord stabs nice and short. In this example I add chnks on the beats to keep the rhythm going.

nobody rocks like van halen! =VH=
i dunno about first single but the first cd i ever owned was a compilation of meatloaf and bonnie tyler…
    i was a strange child.
Everybody knows that hagar was lame woodshed, and despite selling less albums and only really making one good cd since leaving VH david lee roth won, i mean the man had billy sheehan AND steve vai.

Ricky Martin’s Livin’ La Vida Loca….. though I guess I’m kind of cheating since I bought the entire album. Never bought a single to date, but that’s got to be one of the more embarrassing first ever CDs.

New Kids on the Block for me. I didn’t know they were meant for pre-teen girls, I thought they were cool. Tut.

  7. Gwyn July 30th, 2009 9:32 pm

Ahem… erm, my first Cassingle was Roxette’s “Dressed for Success”…

  8. John Preval July 31st, 2009 9:09 am

Sad to say my first single was Tom Jones’ “Green Green Grass of Home”

  9. Readie July 31st, 2009 11:04 am

Gwyn – no need to be embarrassed by “Dressed for Success”. It’s a classic. It was shaping you up for the big time baby!

I had a lot of records and eight tracks (now who feels old?) around from the start.

But, the first record I bought with my own money was Like a Virgin. One of the more embarrassing cassette tapes I ever owned was Def Leppard. I had the hair to match, so I was pretty much screwed as far as being cool goes.

First album I bought with my own money was Deep Purple’s Machine Head. I’d say most embarrassing was Foreigner’s Double Vision, though I was able to trade it to a friend for Cheap Trick’s Live At Budokan.

Usually I respond with Don McLean’s American Pie when asked this question, the song so long it continued on the flip side, which was among the first singles I ever bought. But the first single I ever bought was A Horse with No Name, by America, purchased at Woolworths, E 204th St., Bronx, NY, 1972. Still no idea what it’s all about.

First Single : Cool for Cats – Squeeze
Second Single : Christmas in Smurfland. Father Abraham and the Smurfs.
Fortunately you only get judged on first single.

The final countdown now please ;)

cbf: Agreed, Hagar was lame. But a better singer than DLR.

Boughter: Probably shouldn’t admit it, but there’s a lot I like about La Vida Loca.

Todd: Never heard of that one. Checking it out on YouTube right now… Pretty damn awesome!

Andy: PoP is nearly as bad.

Iain: Congrats! First place to you.

Gwyn & Readie: It was one of Roxette’s better outings. But on The Look. The first 5 seconds of that are brilliant.

    John: That’s positively cool now.

Lonna: I won’t have a word said against the Lep’

    QAsRevenge: That’s a fantastic album.

    Andy: Very lucky.

Mike: I snuck Final Countdown through as a guitar riff. It’s up here.
