Another glorious slice of 80s cheese. The second single I ever bought was by Valen Halen (although it was Hagar era Halen). Which was something of departure from my first ever single: Chas ‘n Dave’s Snooker Loopy. If anyone thinks they’ve got me beat in the embarrassing-first-single stakes (or CD or download if you want to make me feel old), leave a comment.
Keep the chord stabs nice and short. In this example I add chnks on the beats to keep the rhythm going.
Ricky Martin’s Livin’ La Vida Loca….. though I guess I’m kind of cheating since I bought the entire album. Never bought a single to date, but that’s got to be one of the more embarrassing first ever CDs.

Sad to say my first single was Tom Jones’ “Green Green Grass of Home”
Gwyn – no need to be embarrassed by “Dressed for Success”. It’s a classic. It was shaping you up for the big time baby!
I had a lot of records and eight tracks (now who feels old?) around from the start.
But, the first record I bought with my own money was Like a Virgin. One of the more embarrassing cassette tapes I ever owned was Def Leppard. I had the hair to match, so I was pretty much screwed as far as being cool goes.
First album I bought with my own money was Deep Purple’s Machine Head. I’d say most embarrassing was Foreigner’s Double Vision, though I was able to trade it to a friend for Cheap Trick’s Live At Budokan.
Usually I respond with Don McLean’s American Pie when asked this question, the song so long it continued on the flip side, which was among the first singles I ever bought. But the first single I ever bought was A Horse with No Name, by America, purchased at Woolworths, E 204th St., Bronx, NY, 1972. Still no idea what it’s all about.

Fortunately you only get judged on first single.
