Antsy Pants – Vampire (Chords)

I’m off to see Juno this week and even if it doesn’t live up to the hype it’ll be worth sticking with it to the end to hear Antsy Pant’s ukulele tune Vampire.

Antsy Pants started life as a collaboration between anti-folker and Moldy Peach Kimya Dawson and twelve year old ukelelist Leo Bear Creek. The project grew to include a whole raft youngsters.

Vampire is sung and uked by Leo and it’s a very cute song. The chords are dead simple.

From what I can make out, Leo plays the ukulele left handed but strung in the right hand way (so the strings are upside down). It got me thinking about it, and it actually makes more sense this way up. D chords and E chords (the bane of uke players) are much easier to play this way round and none of the other main chords are more difficult than the usual way.

    I hope you enjoyed it – I was sorry to see you think it’s hyped, I just think it’s gained popularity quickly because it’s a lovely film and a particularly heart-warming and simple soundtrack. Uke-Hunts are likely to love all the acoustic strumming and plucking – even if a lot of it is *cough* guitar…

    I’ve seen it twice now I was lucky enough to see a preview screening before Christmas and just caught it on general release with my son (who enjoyed it, but made a beeline for the exits as soon as the credits rolled, I think to avoid being seen by the gangs of teenage girls who were there)

    Nevermind, I guess all of the songs they have on their myspace right now have a pretty simple chord progression. They are still awesome, though.

    Lloyd: I feel like it’s been hyped, but apparently my brother hadn’t even heard of it. So, who’s to say? I’m looking forward to seeing it anyway.

    amber: Simple chord progressions wouldn’t put me off – Vampire is dead simple. They have a serious attack of the spammers on their MySpace.

    I watched Juno last night – its was OK. The first 30 minutes of ‘hip speak’ dialogue was nearly enough to make me switch off, but i stuck with it, and in the end was glad that i did. There were some good performances in it, and the stuff with the couple was alot more interesting that i first suspected.

    I thought it was a lot better than Napoleon Dynamite – which of people have compared it to. Maybe because something actaully happens in Juno, rather than it just being 90 minutes of nothing hung on it someone doing a ‘funny dance’.

    Does it deserve the ‘so called’ hype? – No.
    (In the current ‘films about babies’ stakes, I have a 8 month pregnant wife at the moment – and we both prefered ‘knocked up’)

    I second the request for the chords for a few of the tracks in the film. I even reckon I could sucessfully warble my way through the song at the end ;)

    Been to see it. I’m somewhere between zym and Lloyd. I thought it was pretty good. Some good laughs in it and quite touching in parts.

    Musically, Cat Power doing Sea of Love stole the show (much better than the Robert Plant version).

    Andy: The song at the end is just G and C.

    Juno was a great movie. Did a lot better than I expected. They really smothered Kimya Dawson all over the soundtrack though. I didn’t know of her asides from various The Moldy Peaches songs I have prior to listening to the album, but she’s really great. I got the Antsy Pants album and it sure it something.

    I’m a beginner who loved the song “Vampire” (and the film “Juno” !-) )

    I’d very glad to play this song, but… my D, E, and then G and C don’t sounds like the song !

    I founded the tabs for guitar at 911tabs.com, but they play it in Dm, G, C… I tryed, but it don’t sound like the song too ! ! !

    I don’t say that the tab is wrong – oh oh no, I’m no this kind of man : I’ve all to learn !

    Could anyone says to me If the 911tabs.com website gives the correct chords for ukulele ?

    Could a ukulele-superhero tab the “Vampire” song ?

    I appreciate all these tabs, they’ve been very helpful to me as a beginner player. I seem to have alot of trouble trying to figure out strumming patterns by listening/watching to people play. Could someone help me out with the strum pattern for this song?

    I play left-handed like that with the uke “upside-down” and it’s true the E and D are easier although I always have trouble with d7 for some reason.
