Ukulele Videos of the Year So Far Part 1

I’ve been looking back through this year’s UkeTubes and there’s been some really fantastic stuff. There’s been so much variety in the stuff that’s been produced. I was about to say best year ever, but perhaps it’s not quite as good as last year – I’ll say this year is best for videos and last year was best for records.

So today I’ve put together two posts with my favourite videos from UkeTubes this year* along with ones that caused a stir in the comments and those that spread on the net. Let me know your favourites and what I’ve missed out in the comments.

*Rules fudged so I could include Keston Cobblers’ Club.

Little6ster – I Wish…

SoftSpot – Half a House

Keston Cobblers Club – You Go

Jónsi and Nico Muhly – Go Do

Brett Domino – Justin Timberlake Medley

Manitoba Hal – Poulet Shack

4DJB25 – Esmerelda

Savannah Smith – Ventriloquism

Matt Griffo – One Love

Secret Home Party – Reciprocation

Ukulollo – Knight Rider

    Hello,

Thank you very much for your site and the daily emails….I love
finding new music that I have not heard before.

Must have missed Brett Domino the first time around. Worthy. I love the Manitoba Hal’s ‘Poulet Shack’. Al, I know you’re a fan of Matt Griffo’s ‘One Love’. The video is fun, but the song annoys me too much.

Finally, special mention to Ukulollo’s ‘Knight Rider’. Have been a fan of his for a while – his depeche mode ‘Enjoy the Silence’ being a particular favourite. Knight Rider – classy!

Kevin: Thanks for the link, Kevin. But I have a (fairly) strict no-Beatles rules.

Shobs: I can quite understand why some people wouldn’t like Matt’s song.

Wow, missed SoftSpot first time around, they are fairly epic…

… but of course, NONE CAN COMPARE WITH TEH AWESOMITY OF BRETT DOMINO! If I was a woman, I’d want Steven Peavis’ child.

I love seeing established artists like Jonsi as well as new upcomers like Savannah Smith (who should totally be an established artist, but I digress).

Sebastian: I just wish Brett would use the uke a bit more so I could feature him more often. And I’m looking forward to hearing a lot more from SoftSpot.

April: I like that as well. There’s not much of a gap between the pros and the ams in terms of songwriting or playing.

Djoga: Me too. I think they might be one of nominees for the best of the year award.
