A bit of sad news: Boulder Acoustic Society have gone their separate ways. But you’ll still be able to get your fill of old-timey ukulele because Aaron is continuing with his solo project The Quiet American. One video from them today along with two traditional Irish tunes (I’m currently the under the influence of Charlie […]

I was in a very spring mood earlier this week – helped by springy tunes from Herman VDC and Danna Richards – and then it went and bloody snowed. So this posted has ended up as blossoms and summer dresses mixed with furry collars and duck-sweaters.
In this week’s selection includes the smiley Vespers, the grumpy Stephin Merritt (taking some time off from crazy golf to play uke), the Dubliny acoustic hip hopping Original Rudeboys and right-angley Walk off the Earth.
Two videos this week from Hawaiian legend Cyril Pahinui backed by Peter Moon on ukulele. Also up is Lisa Hannigan covering the song everyone is covering at the moment, The Leftover Cuties covering Regina Spektor and Phredd covers a guy in a skin-tight superhero outfit he found in a spaceship.
I don’t usually put up album cover videos but I had to make an exception for the uke track on David’s Lyre’s new album. You can get it on Bandcamp on a ‘pay what you like’ basis. It’s well worth throwing in a few quid – it’s an excellent album. Also up folkiness from The […]
Some famous types picking up the ukulele this week: OK Go (continuing their journey into every more insane videos), Sharon Van Etten and Frank Turner. Alongside them people who are famous to all good uke-loving people like Patsy Monteleone, Kimo Hussey and Herman Vandecauter. If you haven’t yet, you’ve still got time to vote for […]
The nominees are in and here’s the final list of contenders: Poll Closed You can only vote once and polling closes at midnight Hawaii time on 13th February. I’d encourage you to watch any you’re not familiar with but other than that, go wild. Vote for whoever you like for whatever reason you like (who […]
A James Hill double-bill this week including one from his Hi Session. It’s worth checking out their other stuff too. There are uke appearances from Kalei Gamaio and Aldrine Guerrero, and non-uke stuff like this performance by Kuana Torres. If you haven’t made your nominations for ukulele video of 2011 yet head here and make […]
The real purpose of the vote: to get people watching excellent musicians. So if there’s a video you think has been cruelly overlooked, be sure to give it a nomination because I’ll be watching anything I missed first time round. For the first stage, everyone gets to nominate up to 5 videos – leave them […]
Walk off the Earth have certainly had a good start to 2012. Their five-people-on-one-guitar Gotye cover hit it big and they had plenty of other excellent videos to back it up. Including some uke action. Also new since I last posted, Supercute! rope in Kate Nash and Andrew WK; David Wax Museum rock a jarana; […]
