Ledward Kaapana, Toy Horses, Tinyfolk: UkeTube

October 4, 2008

This week’s selection of uke videos includes Tinyfolk, Led Kaapana and Toy Horses.

In other news, I got a mention in the Guardian. I don’t know what discussion forum he’s talking about and he seems to have missed the link to the chord chart in BIG RED LETTERS. It’s not like them to get something wrong - “HMS Hampshire did not sink after hitting a land mine. They are rarely found at sea.” [Read more]

Amanda Palmer, Broken Records: UkeTube

September 27, 2008

Arrrrrgh. Some serious interweb connection problems for me at the moment. I’ve got a few posts lined up, but if you’re expecting a message from me, you may have to wait a while.

Anyhoo, this week’s videos include Amanda Palmer covering another Radiohead song on the uke. I would have included the Jack and Meg of the ukulele Versi-o-rama doing thieir version of Tonight You Belong to Me were it not for Dailymotion issues - the singing and ukeing might not be the best around, but the video more than makes up for it. Izumi: UkeTube

September 20, 2008

It’s not often I feature two videos by the same person in one week, but I’ve made an exception for Izumi. I’ve moaned about the bland, easy listening nature of most modern Hawaiian music before, but I love the traditional stuff. The Hawaiian yodel is one of those love-it-or-hate-it sounds. Personally, I think it’s beautiful and Izumi’s voice is incredible.

I was going to include Bosko and Honey’s Seven Nation Army but embedding is outlawed. You’ve seen it already though, right? [Read more]

All the uke gals are obsessed with Sarah Palin this week: The UkuLady, Jen Kwok, Poopy Lungstuffing. And there’s plenty of non-political uke action from the likes of Tripping Lily, Peter Madcat Ruth and Howlin Hobbit. [Read more]

Max the Ukulele Punk Rocker, Seeso and More Videos

August 9, 2008

Look, Mum, I’m in the New York Times. I do feel a little slighted that they didn’t include a link to me (FMM and MUD got one), but now you can expect to see a big, “As Featured in the New York Times,” sticker every time I mention the National Anthems ebook*.

Anyhoo, you came for ukulele videos, and that’s what you’ll get. Particularly good this week are Max the Ukulele Punk Rocker with an original song, and Seeso and Jason Arimoto (together and apart).

*As featured in the New York Times. [Read more]

Poopy Lungstuffing, Rod Thomas, Hailey Wojcik: Uke Videos

August 2, 2008

I had a nightmare time deciding which video to feature on the front page this week. I couldn’t decide between Rod Thomas’s ukulele pop, the eagerly anticipated - by me at least - return of Hailey Wojcik and Poopy Lungstuffing’s cover of The Kink’s Oh Demon Alcohol (many times better than the pretty terrible original).
