UkeTube

June 2, 2007

A bumper crop of YouTube videos this week. It was tough narrowing it down.

Wilfried Welti – Elspeth of Nottingham
[youtube 1IiBJtS13pg]

Welti plays with a restraint and clarity that’s rarely seen on the uke – suiting the classical pieces perfectly. You can download some of his tabs and mp3s here

Jake Shimabukuro – Orange World

This isnt’ the first time this clip has been uploaded but it’s well worth watching again.

TT Cafe – In The Mood
[youtube MBUxPVmKW8A]

A battle between uke and accordion complete with Angus Young/Arnold Schwarzenegger style heal kicks.

Ukulelezaza – Rockin’ The Uke

It’s heartening to see Uke Fest spreading around the world. This week has seen clips uploaded from the Swedish Ukulele Festival (featuring an impressive young banjo-uker) and the Ukulele Festival of Belgium (from which this tasty piece of strummery comes).

Some good films! I agree about WW, he plays very well.

It is great that the clips from the Ukulele Festival of Belgium show such a high standard of playing and performance.

I really admire WW’s playing. I wish I had the restraint to play classical tunes. I always start messing with them and bending them round. They never turn out as good as they should. It’s almost as if Beethoven is a better composer than me :P

Hey, hey! Thanks for adding our festival to your blog. I’ve been listening to your playing and, boy, let me say you are quite the ukulele player! A real “Smeckhead”… Keep up the good work and see you at the next Belgian Ukefest!

Thanks, Wininboy. I’m glad the festival went so well. I hope I can make it to next year’s. Many of my favourite things come from Belgium :P

Got something to say?
