The Saturday UkeTube
September 15, 2007
Another bumper crop this week. Jake Shimabukuro’s performance at the SF Ukulele Festival, new Taimane clips and a number of videos from a ukulele get together in Dortmund with a whole bunch of Uke Hunt favourites. Not to mention some ukulele juggling.
Watch more clips including Stephin Merritt reworking a kids’ classic and a GUGUG going solo over the fold.
Stephin Merritt – The Wheels On The Car

I’m not quite sure what to think about this. Vinyl is Heavy has some opinions and a short history of selling out to the man.
Fin Raucous – Crocodile Rock

David Beckingham – Baby Elephant Walk

An excellent version. Some really nice twists in it. I particularly like the extra harmony on the riff at the end. Played like this:
Alternatively, you could play this harmony:
Earlyguard – Autumn’s Color

Ukulele Bill – I Got Rhythm

Steve James and Del Ray – Dance Hall Shuffle

Wiese

Woodshed, his “name” is Wiese, not Weise!
No suprise that Stephin Merritt sold out. For all his posturing to the contrary, he seems pretty mainstream to me.
Right on Craig…
It’s a shame the ukulele is being used to advertise such nasty products…4×4 cars and McDonalds…what’s next?
I can’t see how Stephin Merritt is all that mainstream. I’ve always regarded his stuff as being an acquired taste.
Woodshed; we must agree to disagree on Mr. Merritt’s merits, or lack of them.
