Batik Fluke and Flea: Ukulele Window Shopping

A new design for Flukes and Fleas: the Batik. And the Tiki Flea has had a bit of a makeover too. They all come with the new peg-head tuners which, despite the way they look, are geared.

This Gretsch style 3 is just beautiful. I didn’t realise Gretsch had made a ukulele as pretty as their guitars. I usually associate them with ukes that are rather less refined.

Sailor band.

That gretsch is a beauty. Flukes and fleas are nice but waaaaay over-priced. That ship must’ve been a fun ship to sail on!

Love the new look by the way, spot on!

John: Thanks for alerting me to the fact I published this rather the scheduled it! It’s been a long week.

Agree with you that the Flukes are over priced.

I was thinking it was a bit early in the day for the window shopping email!

I was hoping the Gretsch would be an archtop electric ukulele. It looks nice, though.

Those Flukes you linked to are pricey, but the cost is largely from add-ons. If you are willing to forgo the pegheads, rosewood fretboard, and fancy paint job, you can buy a Fluke from the manufacturer at almost half the price of one with all the bells and whistles.

I might be coming into some uke-related money soon, and the only thing on my list is a Fluke. Yeah, they’re expensive, but they’re cheaper than most guitars and they’re so SHINY. Plus, like Dan said, I’d be skipping the gizmos and gadgets other than a case and strings.

If I was going to spend that amount of money I would at least want a real wood fretboard.

Tally: If you’re getting a Fluke I highly recommend you get the rosewood fretboard as well. I bought a Fluke with a plastic fretboard (secondhand) and it’s quite nasty to play.

I’m not too keen on the Fluke in general so I wouldn’t recommend one at all. But there are plenty of people who love their Flukes. Have you tried one before?

Dan: It would be cool if they did that. The archtop Kalas look great but I think they could be bettered with a few Gretsch touches.

I’ve played a Fluke before and I loved it…not sure what kind of fretboard. I guess if I’m going to get one, I should probably pimp it out a little.
