Ukulele Quiz 2010

I’ve made this quiz much easier than last year’s (and number 16 is there to ensure no one gets 0) but there are some very tricky ones in there. If you’re reading by email or feed you might want to head over to the site so you get everything.

If you’re looking to waste a bit of time:

– Grab a piece of paper
– Display your uke knowledge
– Check the answers here (no peeking)
– Leave your score in the comments along with your dangs/woohoos.

Probably should be revising for the exams I have right after Christmas, but now I need to revise this! 14 marks! EPIC FAIL! TBF I only started playing/taking an interest in Ukulele this September.

  2. Graymalkin December 22nd, 2010 3:16 pm

23 for me, which I’m actually quite pleased with. Although, in fairness, I’m terribly easily pleased. A moderate attack of chordfail, both looking and listening, was my downfall.

Cheers for the quiz, and a Merry Christmas to all!

  3. david December 22nd, 2010 3:18 pm

Unfortunately I’m at work and can’t access youtube… therefore my humungous (ahem) score has to be declared null and void!

(PS Chrimbo wishes and thanks for the site… I don’t comment nearly as much as I should, but I’m glad you do this!)

  4. pepamahina December 22nd, 2010 3:58 pm

I got 15, but only because I was allowed to cheat by using my Uke for the naming the C chord part. Thanks, Josh, for giving me the nerve to post.
Do you think he’ll grade us on a curve???

  5. Woodshed December 22nd, 2010 4:02 pm

Josh: Nothing wrong with 14 (I tidied up your double comment by the way ;) )

    Graymalkin: Congrats! Nice work.

David: And a very Merry Christmas to you too.

pepamahina: You can use your uke for the C part. Is that not clear? I’ll change the wording.

  6. pepamahina December 22nd, 2010 4:05 pm

No, no, no….it was clear. I just still felt like cheating!

  7. Sebastian December 22nd, 2010 4:10 pm

Hummm, a round 20, but I must say, YouTube showing the names of the cover songs really made that section feel like cheating… although my thorough fail with “name that c” almost made up for it. :-)

  8. Joe December 22nd, 2010 4:35 pm

    23! I know more than I thought. :)

  9. Manfrog December 22nd, 2010 6:47 pm

26! Proof I’m spending too much time in Ukuleleland. :)

  10. karl December 22nd, 2010 6:52 pm

26! I know more than I ought to!)

  11. SamD December 22nd, 2010 8:02 pm

    also 26. Couldn’t get 9,10,13 or 14

Thanks Woodshed, for that little bit of fun!

  12. Gavo December 22nd, 2010 10:55 pm

22 for me. Great quiz! I’m off to have a crack at the 2009 one now.

  13. Adim December 22nd, 2010 11:38 pm

    17. My celebrity IQ did not serve me well, I’m afraid. I like the last section though. Makes you realize what you haven’t heard enough of.

  14. Jimmy December 23rd, 2010 12:33 am

27, didn’t get the martin or the last 2 ukers. Much better than last year. Still amazed by James Hill’s Billie Jean, that talented arse

  15. Carly C December 23rd, 2010 2:39 am

12 but that just means I will be spending more time learning things on your excellent site so I can be a better uker in 2011 (and get a better score next year). :)

  16. George Stone December 23rd, 2010 7:39 am

wow surprisingly 30, why can I know all the answers? maybe because this quiz isn’t so difficult? or maybe I spend too much time on the uke stuff?
Anyway, thanks Al, you give me a funny wake up, ;)
    GS

  17. Luapelele December 23rd, 2010 10:06 am

Full marks for me, but considering my job, I would be sacked if I didn’t. Great bit of fun, cheers Al.

  18. Mr Pants December 23rd, 2010 11:30 am

20 – But considering I’ve only been tinkering about with ukes for a month or so it speaks volumes about how many mispent work hours have been spent on t’net!

    Love the site :o)

  19. Jules_perox December 23rd, 2010 12:01 pm

21/30…hmm…not tooooo bad! I fell down on the name the players bit!
But really enjoyed doing this, thanks for going to the bother Al.
All the best for Chrimbo! Jules

  20. Michael December 23rd, 2010 12:32 pm

Hey, thanks for this great quiz – I enjoyed this very much – although my main instrument is the mandolin. But in my blog I am writing about all the plucked instruments including the uke. So at least I knew Julia Nunes and Paul McCartney. Best wishes for 2011! Michael

  21. Scott December 23rd, 2010 1:23 pm

24 out of 30. I clearly don’t know my fellow ukulele players and I can’t believe I missed the Martin (5k). I blame it on the fact that I have written off ever owning such an expensive uke as I currently only drool over the “0” and “1” models. Thanks for the quiz and Merry Christmas everybody!

  22. PurpleHeather December 23rd, 2010 1:53 pm

7 I actually knew, plus 5 for recognising track titles from the youtube captions. I’m at wok, so can’t listen :( I’ve been playing for a month now, so I don’t think 7 is too bad ;P

  23. Lindy Danny December 23rd, 2010 1:53 pm

Would you also have accepted Dm7 for the answer to #1?

  24. Lyndsey December 23rd, 2010 3:34 pm

Hm…I got like 5. Guess I should have studied for that one! lol
(in my defense I just woke up with no school for a week, so my brain is on break)
    :D

  25. Woodshed December 23rd, 2010 3:34 pm

Sebastian: It was hard enough finding songs without the original artist in the title. I think if you know the title, you’ll know the song.

    Joe: Congrats.

    Manfrog: No such thing.

    karl: Way to go!

Gavo: The 2009 quiz is much harder – don’t feel bad.

Adim: Yeah, this year’s quiz had a bit more celeb to it. I thought that might make it easier.

Jimmy: The last uker is a really difficult one. Seems the one before is tougher than I thought. I guess she hasn’t been on the scene that much this year.

    Carly: Good luck next year.

    George and Luapelele: Smart arses!

Mr Pants: That’s really good going. Nice skiving.

    Jules: Glad you liked it.

Michael: Cool site. There should be more stuff around for the mandolin.

Scott: And a merry Christmas to you too.

PurpleHeather: That’s good for only a month. I’m pretty sure I’d have scored 2 after my first month playing.

Lindy: Hmm, I’ve got to be harsh and say no. There’s no D in it.

  26. Woodshed December 23rd, 2010 3:35 pm

SamD: Sorry, missed you! I think those you missed were the toughest ones.

  27. Woodshed December 23rd, 2010 4:18 pm

Lyndsey: Fair enough. Get back to bed until the new year.

  28. Sandy December 23rd, 2010 6:01 pm

I got number 16 right. Dats about it….oh well! Soon enough i will conquer this quiz….just you wait and see!!!!

  29. Lauren December 23rd, 2010 9:17 pm

18/30. I’ll call that a job well done, considering I’m a so called amateur. Though this certainly was a wake up call for learning about different uke heads! :P

  30. karl December 24th, 2010 12:44 pm

I can now proudly say I’ve got a UQ of 26.

But I won’t, I’d just get awkward looks.

  31. Julia December 24th, 2010 1:33 pm

18/30… neither really bad nor really good… but it´s okay…

  32. Ron Hale December 28th, 2010 4:09 am

    23. Seems I owe massive apologies
to the play ukulele by ear crowd.

  33. banterCZ December 29th, 2010 9:38 am

11 points but I am satisfied because I have been playing ukulele just for four months.

  34. Dopefish7590 December 29th, 2010 6:29 pm

Got 13… I don’t know many Ukulele artists, the C chord variations and the covers were my saving grace. :o

  35. Kempo December 30th, 2010 1:35 am

23/30, pretty happy with that. Fell down on identifying the uke players and the brands, which if I’m honest, I don’t mind – there’s enough useless information about guitars in my head without me being able to tell a uke by the logo on the headstock.

Great site Woodshed, the Christmas eBook kept me occupied while at home with the folks and I hope everyone had a very Ukelele Christmas.

  36. Woodshed January 1st, 2011 12:12 pm

Sandy: At least you can read! That puts you comfortably in the upper percentiles of human beings that have ever lived. And, btw, punch and friend in the face and talking orangutan.

Lauren and Julia: 18 is definitely a respectable score.

    karl: Good knowledge!

    Ron: Get working on it!

banter: I would have got much lower than that after I’d been playing 4 months.

Dopefish: I’d say recognising the C variations is much more important than recognising ukers anyway.

Kempo: Thanks, I had an excellent Christmas. Hope you did too.

  37. Marcie January 2nd, 2011 4:47 pm

Thanks so much for this. I only got 12, but it was awesome.

  38. Tom January 11th, 2011 3:31 pm

21, I’m happy with that. Celebrity knowledge knocked me back. Definitely better than my score last year, I think I got a 1 or 2 then!

  39. Woodshed January 16th, 2011 11:03 am

    Marcie: Glad you enjoyed it.

Tom: Lack of celebrity knowledge is definitely forgiven.
