25 for me! I knew I knew the name of the Mya-Moe but just couldn’t find it in my head. It was the ‘Name that celeb’ questions that did for me, I only got Bill Cosby.

  2. zakulele December 14th, 2011 9:31 pm

    28/30

  3. Woodshed December 14th, 2011 9:41 pm

J-Hob: Good going! I was a bit worried the celeb round was too difficult.

    zakulele: Blimey! Well done!

  4. Chris December 14th, 2011 9:45 pm

I’ve definitely been able to see that tab for about a week and a half now, I guess we’ll see if it goes away tomorrow.

  5. Josh Gordon December 14th, 2011 10:33 pm

“Not available in your country” *sniff*

  6. connor December 14th, 2011 10:44 pm

26 if I’m allowed Kermit and that guy from Flight of the Conchords. Disturbingly telling that the chords took longer for me to sort out than the brand pics. Early resolution: more strumming, less window-shopping. Great quiz. Yearly tradition?

  7. Woodshed December 14th, 2011 10:51 pm

Chris: Hmmm, this is the first I’ve heard of it. We’ll see.

Josh: What isn’t? The Jake tab or one of the videos?

connor: No you’re not! Yes, yearly tradition. I should probably link to the old ones.

  8. Josh Gordon December 14th, 2011 10:56 pm

The Jake tab says “not available in your country”.

  9. Jimmy December 14th, 2011 10:57 pm

24 and a half, got the Mya-Moe headstock confused with the Bruko one which I’m annoyed about, and thought Jake played a Kanilea. And I gave myself a mark for “Your man from Scott Pilgrim”

  10. Woodshed December 14th, 2011 11:13 pm

Josh: Bugger! Is that the US?

Jimmy: People giving themselves points for anything!

  11. Yukon December 14th, 2011 11:28 pm

Yep, not available in my country as well. Which is to say the US.

  12. Chris December 15th, 2011 12:10 am

I live in the US and it works fine for me…unless I’m looking at a different tab then everyone else. But my looks pretty legit

  13. ukuleletim December 15th, 2011 12:20 am

I’m not even sure where the link is for the tab, much less can I download it.

And I’m not posting my quiz score, either. FAIL X 2

  14. Marcie December 15th, 2011 1:24 am

18! This is fantastic considering I got like 11 last year. I always do terrible with brands and ‘Name that singer’.

  15. SamD December 15th, 2011 1:45 am

25 – lost a few on the celebs and the brands. Goes to show I’m more aural than visual :)

  16. Alex December 15th, 2011 4:17 am

Looks like the tab is blocked in Australia as well. Anyone having any better luck?

  17. pepamahina December 15th, 2011 4:54 am

I got 18 too. Like Connor, it would be 19 if you would only be reasonable and count “That guy who’s in Flight of the Conchords”. 20 if you count “He played that kid in the private school that put on all of the plays and fell in love with his teacher.”

  18. L.Bo Marie December 15th, 2011 4:55 am

sheesh. I must have done better than last year- I didn’t even bother to post my results last time!
15 points. I can never remember people’s names..

  19. pepamahina December 15th, 2011 4:58 am

P.S. Why doesn’t Jake just put out a ukulele songbook with his tabs in it and make a buzzillion dollars? (That’s about half a buzzillion pounds). I don’t get it.

  20. jon freeman December 15th, 2011 9:54 am

19 for me. Don’t know how I have never seen the Joe Strummer pick before – makes the “ukes are cool” argument a whole lot easier to win! The Amanda Palmer song makes me smile.

  21. Ambient Doughnut December 15th, 2011 11:10 am

    26 for me!

  22. Blaze December 15th, 2011 3:55 pm

16… didn’t have a clue about the celebs and the brands threw me as well

  23. Nickie December 15th, 2011 4:24 pm

I did really lousy. All I got right were the ukulele brands.

  24. Loïc December 15th, 2011 5:23 pm

26, without cheating or giving me points for undue reasons… I have to admit that my brain hurts after figuring out the notes, though.

  25. anya December 16th, 2011 2:28 am

the ukulele brands killed me… i thought it was going to be so easy in the beginning, nope! ahha. but fun, thanks :)

    i got 14.5 :/

  26. Vincent December 16th, 2011 5:04 am

    24. although im saying 25 because i dont think joe strummer is a real person

  27. Woodshed December 16th, 2011 6:17 am

    Congratulations, folks!

Next year I’ll make the celeb round easier. And allow answer like ‘Oh, you know, that guy’ and ‘thingy off of that show’.

  28. Ian December 16th, 2011 1:34 pm

    17 :(
obviously need to brush up on my uke skills. Notes were perfect but the picture rounds were awful

  29. Carrie Griffin December 16th, 2011 6:37 pm

It’s pretty disappointing that I could only get 100% accuracy on two rounds, one of which was just recognizing famous people.

  30. mog December 16th, 2011 11:03 pm

so happy knew more than i thought and got 100% all round :D

  31. Luke December 16th, 2011 11:09 pm

    section 1. was was 4/5

    then 2/5

4/5 (Amanda Palmer has her own unique form of being absolutely frikking terrible doesn’t she?)

5/5 on naming uke brands (too much window shoping/player bios)

    4/5 on chords

    3/5 on covers..

    Not bad =I

  32. Chris December 17th, 2011 7:43 pm

If anybody in the US wants the link to the Jake tab I have it

  33. Ron Hale December 18th, 2011 7:19 am

    25. But the real celebrity on #8 is Kermit, Al. The other guy will be forgotten soon enough.

Telling people not to stare at the black boxes just means they will. Or we will.

Do you really think the label for KoAloha is more difficult to identify than the headstock? The points are distinctive, true. More so than the Ks definitely. But the label says “KoAloha”.

Speaking of KoAloha, have you seen the recent video of Alvin Okami singing “Days of Wine and Roses” to the accompaniment of Gordon Marks? If not, watch it.

Love that not everyone knew Mya-Moe. I wish I didn’t. But it’s uber-distinctive. You cannot miss it. You just can’t.

  34. Woodshed December 18th, 2011 8:18 am

Ron: No, I don’t think that. The point of the quiz wasn’t to make every question as hard as possible.

  35. whatchmacallit December 20th, 2011 7:07 pm

    15/30. mediocre.

  36. Manfrog December 20th, 2011 11:00 pm

26! I missed Jimmy Fallon/Timbalake, called Jason Schwartzman Jason Silverman, and couldn’t summon up the Kings of Leon or The Jam (which is the only real head-slapper for me. Thanks for setting it up Al, Happy Holidays!

  37. Hokumele December 21st, 2011 10:17 pm

On some of the “name the ukulele brand” questions you can look into the sound hole and see…

  38. Woodshed December 21st, 2011 10:23 pm

Hokumele: Yeah, that was the point of me selecting those pictures.

  39. banter December 21st, 2011 11:16 pm

So 13 points for me (11 last year). No problem with music theory but celebrities are a pitfall. Oh no, I mixed up Talking Heads with The Smiths.

Jake is available for the Czech Republic. Does anybody knows how to export tab to pdf on Mac?

  40. Woodshed December 22nd, 2011 9:10 am

banter: The easiest way is to print then click ‘PDF’.

  41. banterCZ December 22nd, 2011 11:30 am

Woodshed: I tried but I got an error. I will contant support.

  42. Kempo December 26th, 2011 2:34 am

I got 25/30. Ok maybe 24 because I’d read the comments before I did the quiz and saw the Amanda Palmer reference, can’t say if I’d guessed her otherwise. Small improvement on 23/30 last year

And like other people here, the only round I got 100% was Name That Uke, something has changed, the useless information is starting to stick…

Oh and I got a Kala Tenor Neck Soprano today :D

  43. Rachel January 15th, 2012 4:50 pm

29/30! so close yet so far…
