Ukulele Video of the Year 2011: Vote

The nominees are in and here’s the final list of contenders:

Poll Closed

You can only vote once and polling closes at midnight Hawaii time on 13th February. I’d encourage you to watch any you’re not familiar with but other than that, go wild. Vote for whoever you like for whatever reason you like (who wins isn’t as important as getting some exposure for excellent videos).

I find it hard to believe there’s anyone who didn’t fall in love with Lisa Hannigan this past year. Just sayin.

Unrelated: how about a tab for Somebody I Used to Know?

This year it was much harder to choose just one. Besides my hands down fave, Map of Tasmania, I also loved Lisa Hannigan and James Hill. Plus! – how can anyone who watched 80s music videos fail to crack up over Raymond’s Addicted to Love? And LP? She’s on my hot list too! Too much goodness here. I’m feeling faint…

  3. Woodshed February 7th, 2012 8:21 am

Tim: I put it up last week.

Marymac: I know! It’s a close run thing at the moment too. A tie for the lead and a few close behind.

  4. Cappers February 7th, 2012 8:55 am

Very tricky decision this year. If I could i’d vote for a 3 way tie between James Hill, Keston Cobllers’ Club and Raymond Penfield. 3 great songs.
Judging from the current number of votes it seems everyone else is having as much difficulty deciding as i am, it’s all looking very close at the moment.

Have to say some great entry’s, but Map of Tasmania all day long! For it is the best video by a country mile and the most original use of a uke in a song! Also love Addicted to love.

This is mind blowing, folks. Thanks for being nominated! \o/

    Oração é a música e o clipe.

Hmmmm. You’ll have to pardon this observation (I’m a scientist by trade so I can’t help myself), but this poll has just taken a rather sudden, overwhelming, and rather suspicious swing in the direction of A Banda Mais Bonita da Cidade. Makes me wonder whether the end results will end up being more of an indication of how many pals the nominees can mobilize to vote, rather than the preference of ukehunt readers. I guess that’s unavoidable in this kind of thing huh? (Not to denigrate A Banda Mais Bonita da Cidade and their excellent video in any way, of course).

  9. Kempo February 7th, 2012 7:35 pm

Right enough, pepamahina. One quick search on Facebook, and… ah, I see!

Surely Lisa Hannigan will have a Facebook profile… or will that just prompt a social media ‘arms race’?

  10. Tim February 7th, 2012 7:36 pm

Thanks Woodshed, clearly I don’t check in here as often as I should.

I was really hoping AFP would be in the lead. I mean, A Banda Mais Bonita da Cidade’s song is great, but it isn’t necessarily a uke song/video.

AFP is just bad-ass all around. I love that she’s so into the ukulele these days. The song/video is unique and definitely features the uke. That’s why I love it so much.

Also, I adore Eddie Vedder and James Hill, but they’re already big names.

    Ballet stuffing!?!?

I don’t know about the other 350 people, but I really did think Oracao was the best video on the list. Really, really tough choice, probably would have been Pett Level alternatively.

Anyway, just wanted to make it clear that at least some of the Oracao votes were unprompted.

Either way, it’s a great list of videos.

  14. Ron Hale February 8th, 2012 12:13 am

Seriously consider this the last one of these, Al.
    This is beyond ridiculous.

  15. Kennedy February 8th, 2012 3:16 am

Lisa Hannigan does have a nice voice, but I couldn’t make it through her nominated video without laughing and having Cube Squared playing ‘Baby Doll’ overwrite it in my head. (Cube Squared featured in the movie ‘Tapeheads,’ and used the same video theme probably before Lisa started recording.

I’m with Ron on the voting issue. You, and all of the people submitting videos, submit so many diverse and fun videos, it sort of spoils it to choose a ‘best.’

  16. Woodshed February 8th, 2012 8:51 am

Cappers: I very nearly voted for the Cobblers’ Club too.

Tim: Yeah, the video itself is pretty great!

Rodrigo: It’s a great video. I love it!

pepamahina and Kempo: Yeah, it happens. But they earned their fans. And they’re cool enough to follow the blog! Plus their video has significantly more views than the rest of the list put together.

Holly: There’s not an awful lot of uke in Map of Tasmania either. And Amanda Palmer is definitely more famous than James Hill.

ukuleletim: Is that why the leading man always looks so well endowed?

Charlie: I voted for it too. Unbidden by any Facebook post.

Ron: Didn’t you leave a comment before eagerly asking when it would be? Now you want it thrown away because you don’t like the vote so far?

Kennedy: If Ron Hale suggests something I usually assume it’s the worse possible course of action.

  17. RobNy February 8th, 2012 1:03 pm

    Penfield!

  18. Kempo February 8th, 2012 3:51 pm

Maybe Oracao is benefiting from the range of instruments featured? I hear it’s a big hit over on toy piano blog 12-inchpianist.com …

    Ah thangew!

  19. Howlin' Hobbit February 8th, 2012 7:58 pm

    to quote Woodshed:

I voted for it too. Unbidden by any Facebook post.

I had two others in the running for my vote but just liked Oracao better.

  20. Woodshed February 10th, 2012 9:42 am

RobNY: Is that a Dangermouse reference. Did Dangermouse even make it over there?

    Kempo: Groan!

Hobbit: I had three others in the running. I think anyone on the list is a deserving winner.

  21. Woodshed February 14th, 2012 11:05 am

    Voting closed!

    Thanks for your votes, everyone.
