Cocoon – Chupee (Chords)

Cocoon – Chupee (Chords)

In case you were mislead by my ineptitude yesterday, nominations for Ukulele Video of the Year close on the 27th January (not the day before they opened as I previously stated).

This year’s winner of the always fiercely fought Hat Wearer of the Year Award is chipswow for her fine work on her cover of Cocoon’s Chupee (technically uploaded this year). She also narrowly missed out on Best Hair to Misanthrope Jackalope.

Over a Christmas break full of drizzle, sport-talk and ugly people, I’ve been asking myself one question: Why the hell am I living in England when France is this far away? *indicates small distance with fingers* Things France is famous for: food, wine, good-looking people, surrendering, existentialism and cute ukulele songs. Things I love: food; wine; pretty but slightly depressed girls; cute ukulele songs. Plus, I’m jaw-droppingly handsome and a spineless coward. It’s a perfect match.

But until I’m sat outside a cafe chatting with Coralie Clément about ‘pissing by the bonk’, I’ll make do with strumming this song.

As you can see on their Le Soir Ukulele Session, he plays all the chords in the verse with his finger barred across the second fret. But I prefer playing the G and Em chords in the more usual way.

For a basic strum pattern you can use: down, up, up, down, up

  1. Hello Jodi January 22nd, 2009 6:57 pm

I am also currently obsessed with French pop music, namely Carla Bruni. I’ve been wondering if I’m one of those people the French could really latch onto, you know? Only thing is, I don’t do the depression thing. The closest I get is malaise.

According to George Bush, the problem with the French is that they don’t have word for entrepeneur. God, how we’ll miss him……..

Paul, I think you’re “misunderestimating” old George.

I’ve been crying ever since he flew off in that helicopter. Maybe he went as far as France…

You can’t buy Scotch eggs in France. FACT.

  5. cardboardfrog January 22nd, 2009 11:04 pm

you can however still get scotch whisky and i’d prefer a bottle of talisker to a pastry product any day!
oooh this is very nice, i do like his hat, i wonder if you have to kill them yourself.
if you move to france though, you would have to be slightly apathetic and master the gallic shrug which could take a while you may even have to learn french!

    It’s like a mullet hat.

There was no ending to the video. Did they stomp all the black things and get their uke back?

Jodi: Is Carla Bruni classed as French now? I think I might have to do a French week: France Gall, Jaqueline Taieb, Mareva. Remind me if I forget.

Paul: Let’s hope the inauguration cock-up is a good omen for continued misspeakings.

Lonna: I don’t think he’s cut out for the activities every other ex-world leader does: speaking engagements and writing.

Iain: All the more reason to go in my book.

cbf: I picture myself swigging absinthe.

Chris: I don’t know. Those things look like they could turn into vicious bastards if you get them riled up.

If any one was wondering the flute part goes B-E-D (go up from B to E). At least, I think that’s how it goes. It sound right to me! But what do I know

  13. ju February 16th, 2009 5:49 pm

  14. Woodshed February 16th, 2009 6:05 pm

ju: In that case, try Ultimate Guitar.

    Ju, there’s also: http://www.abc-tabs.com/search/affiche.php?artist_id=2382
You need register to see the tabs, so in case the site isn’t accessible in English: Zone membre -> Devenir membre; “mot de passe” is password as you can probably guess.

I’m slightly depressed right now. I first heard this song something like two years ago on a local French radio, and only now do I see the video. On an English’s website. How shameful. *waves a flag that declares: “Slightly-depressed-French-girl”*

By the way, Hello Jodi, you don’t need to be depressed to attract the French. Just complain a lot, loudly, and about various subjects such as the weather, and the government, and the high-getting-higher prices (preferably a mix of all three of them in a two-minute-long conversation), and you’ll fit right in.

    Thanks, Luce.

This song sound a bit tricky but also terribly sweet. Definitely gonna try master it. Maybe if a could get the hunter-hat from the guy of the video i could positively get in the zone jajaja.

  20. Woodshed January 26th, 2012 12:38 pm

    NaiRuke: Good luck with it!

  21. Lady January 12th, 2013 1:18 am
