Britney Spears/Molly Lewis – Toxic (Tab)

Britney Spears/sweetafton23 – Toxic (Tab)

I’m quite ashamed to be mentioning Britney Spears for the second time on this blog, but the quality of this ukulele version of Toxic didn’t really leave me with much choice. She does a great job of cramming all the essential parts onto the uke.

The most challenging part of the song is the riff that kicks the song off. It starts off with a string of hammer-ons and pull-offs. The Fluke she uses is louder and has more sustain than many ukes. If you’re using a soprano you’ll have to work a little harder to get all the notes to sound clearly. The second bar of the riff she plays all on one string. If, like me, you’re so lazy you don’t like moving your hand unless it’s completely necessary, you could the second bar like this:

If I may make a small suggestion… with both the Eb in the verse and the Eb7 in the chorus you can leave the G string open, thus only using three fingers. It makes the transitions much less fiddly and more manageable for us beginners!

Awesome arrangement – so much fun to play, thanks Woodshed!

  20. Woodshed August 27th, 2009 3:49 pm

SamD: I agree with you. But I wrote it the way she plays it.

  21. byjimini March 9th, 2010 7:50 pm

Wow, that’s great. And thanks for the tab, Al!

Is it me or does Molly look like, with her hair shorter, Michael McIntyre? :P

  22. Woodshed March 10th, 2010 5:07 pm

byjimini: Ha ha ha! I think it’s just you.

  26. JMAG March 22nd, 2011 5:43 pm

Is she using a pick because at the bits where the c string is repeatedly strummed im finding it difficult to do it fast enough with just my thumb (but im also not very good with a pick)
should i try and improve my finger speed or just use a pick

  27. CountPancake August 22nd, 2011 10:48 am

Trying to play all these tabs makes my brain hurt.

  28. Woodshed August 22nd, 2011 3:56 pm

CountPancake: What do you think it does to me making them?

  29. Sven December 26th, 2011 1:27 pm

I have to admit, sweetafton’s rendition of this song is absolutely sublime. It’s repeatedly watchable–the video–and she moves her hand so deftly as only a young hand could easily learn.

For us with old hands, ukehunter’s 9-7-8 fingering is much appreciated.

P.S. Sweetafton is decidedly a young woman on her other videos, and I can see that she is young but will bloom to be a beautiful woman in time. Guaranteed toxic likely Britney then.

This feels like a fun party trick. Which I’m always game for. So, thank you.

  31. Woodshed December 9th, 2013 8:17 am

    tbone: Happy partying!

For the first riff on the C string doesn’t the pattern: 0 0 3 2 0 2 3 fit more to the tune? When i play the one on the tablatures it doesn’t seem to fit with the tune. I play on a soprano kauai uke.
